I was watching Invader Zim yesterday and was wondering if there's an actual name for those protective lab coats with the button-up flap that mad scientists like Professor Membrane are infamous for wearing. Anyone know?
I have not seen show (movie?) you referenced. Do you mean the coats with the flap that buttons up near the shoulder, kind of like the Star Trek movie and B5 uniforms? Those really are not lab coats, I've never seen one like that in my 12 years in labs. What I have seen are Chef's coats with that look.
We wear lab coats gloves and other PPE in the BSL 2 areas. I also wear disposable scrubs, shoe covers, and a smock/isolation gown plus a PAPR when i go into the BSL3+ area.
the one he is wearing looks more like a professional jacket. or a lab coat worn in Europe
Why is it, after looking at that image, I picture him in his lab coat at a bar saying something cheesy like "Hello there. I'm a scientist. Can I buy you a drink?"
