Anyone know of a feat that grants a bonus 2nd level spell slot?

I know there are feats to grant a spell slot of a level less than your max and even up to your max. However, I recall seeing a feat that a 1st level wizard could take to gain a 2nd level spell slot. The slot never increased and I think there was even a minor downside until you could actualy cast 2nd level spells. Does anyone know where to find that feat?

It's important to note, though, that this feat is not intended to allow a character to qualify for anything (i.e. PrC like Mystic Theurge) before s/he can actully cast 2nd-level spells normally.

Actually, it makes the DM go against his conscience and purposely beef up the HP of said BBEG beyond its normal CR so that he'll (hopefully) actually be a challenge for said Warmage.

If thats not the intent of the feat then what is the intended purpose of it? While I wasn't thinking of using it for Mystic Theurge, I was thinking of using it to meet the spell component of the Jade Phoenix Mage (from Tomb of Battle) so that I could qualify for the class without having quite so many wizard levels and instead being able to focus more on the warblade class's maneuvers.

Tomb of Battle? :D

Anyway, I think the intent of the feat was to model a certain type of wizard, for a specific kind of campaign (IDNHMBIFOM). However, whether they intended it to meet 2nd level spell prereqs, it quite obviously does IMO.

Well, first of all, it is an example feat only, that's why it's in that sidebar and not in the feat section. Then, the author of the feat himself has said (on the WotC forums IIRC), that that is NOT the intent and the feat should not do this (allow for prerequisites); it was an oversight, that the wording technically allows this (with some vagueness; it was said there, that the feat does not really grant the ability to cast 2nd-level spells, since it has a chance for failure, so it's a step below that ability still).

Why is this not the intent? Because it is completely broken, that's why.

Build some MT characters, that abuse this feat for a prerequisite, and you will quickly see this.

So, this leaves the question, what the intent of the feat actually is...

It grants you a bonus 2nd-level slot (it's similar to Extra Slot in that way), and the ability to use it (within limits) even before you have technical access to 2nd-level spells. That's the intent. And that's what the feat does and should (only) do. :)
