Anyone On Enworld Going To Dragoncon?

If I went the wife would force me to continue driving to South Georgia to see her family. Thereby making me miss it.

But my wife and I, and some friends, have been for the last several and can say it is an enjoyable experiance. Various other things prevent it this year, however, but I wish I could say "Yes, going."
If you are going to game I would recommend preregistration for the games as soon as you can. If you are going go gaming related sessions, you may be disappointed. If you are like almost every else around here and into a little bit of everything pop culture wise, then you will find D-Con a great place to be.

I try desperately each year to convince my friends here in Atlanta to go to GenCon, which is clearly the better con. They mutter things like 'money' and 'stupid Indiana,' and end up politely declining.
I'm going this year. I can finally afford to go.

I've been going to AWA every year, and its hard to fit in two cons so close together. Yeah, yeah, AWA isn't that great a con, I know. But, I see a lot of old college friends there who arn't at DragonCon. It's so close that its a shame I've never been to DragonCon. If I can drag along a friend or two I'll go this year, hopefully.

My friends and I went for many years. We'd go up on a Wednesday and come back on a Monday. We'd go to Six Flags and eat out at a different great Atlanta restaurant each night and generally have a great time. Marriages and such cut into that and I was unable to attend for the last five years or so. I did go up for Saturday a couple years ago and I might do the same this year. I have to say that I enjoyed the organization and location much better the last time I went: the Merchandise Mart was much too far to walk in the blistering Georgia heat.
That said, I'm kind of ambivilant about some parts of it. I understand that some cons have to adopt a more inclusive mix to attract paying ticketholders (especially now; the main reason I went to DC was to see and pick up stuff I'd never seen before. Now everything is just a mouse-click away and the days of hearing dealers on Sunday afternoon yelling '6 comics for a dollar!' is long gone) but DC has - to my opinion - broadened too much into a 'media' convention rather than an SF/Comics/Gaming con.
The costumes are not to be missed. Everyone really puts their best foot forward for this one.
