What is the AWA?

Anime Weekend Atlanta. You usually see lots of advertisement around September. It's worth it if you enjoy Anime Music Videos and JPop, otherwise, not especially (well, there is the dealer's room... :D). Their Video Art Track room is the best I've seen, and they bring in the goods in AMVs. I think they've got 3 Japanese musical artists/groups this year as well, putting on a few concerts.

Sadly, they don't actually pull in any Japanese producers, directors, or actors. And, while singers are good people, it's just nothing like being in the same room with Nobuo Uematsu and Yoshitoshi ABe at the same time. ACen, I miss you.

I'm going to Dragon*Con, but this year I'll be participating rather than running events. YEAH Baby!!!

Dragon*Con is a lot more "eclectic" than most other conventions I've been too with strong representation from many hobbies, not just RPG's. And I have to say that "sight seeing" during Dragon*Con is a blast!

The only part that I dont like is that Gen-Con is right before it and many publishers seem to pass on D-Con because of that. But that surprises me, especially with the 25,000+ in attendance.

Yep.

It'll be my first time to go there as well. We'll see how things go.

You and a friend of mine both... It'll be his first DCon evar! He says he's not one to be surprised... but I betcha he will be... ;)

Just hope you have your hotel room and LOTS of cash... EVERYTHING costs in downtown Atlanta....   Not to mention roomies to share that hotel bill... and if you're gonna be on a tight budget, take lots of food and drinks and stuff from home. Including any meds you might need. There's a place to find a few OTC drugs but it's costly. Same with drinks and snackies. There's a nice food court across the street (through a covered walkway (the Habitrail- when you see it, you'll know why I call it that... :) ) that has places like KFC, Subway, Chick-Fila, and various other fast food joints. From pizza to Chinese and all inbetween. Plus Mickey D's 2 blocks up along with the Hard Rock Cafe too!

If I make an appearance this year it will only be for a day, and I will probably have 2 or 3 kids with me so I won't be gaming.

I'd like to make it to the parade this year. I keep threatening to do that but stuff comes up. My wife's birthday, and that of 2 other family members, falls on the first week of September and her family always gets together Labor Day Weekend. When you add in other cookouts and such, I end up with little time to make it to Dragon Con.

Darth K'Trava, I used to work in one of the buildings connected by the habitrails, and we also used that term. All I needed was one of those spinning wheels for my office, and the little food pellets they fed me.

I've never been to DragonCon, despite living near Atlanta my whole life -- even when I was in Gainesville FL, that's a 5 hour drive up I-75.

Never had much of a desire to attend a con. This year I'll be spending Labor Day weekend with my brother in Seattle.
