d20 Modern is being used as the basic rules for the Identity: Transhuman RPG... which, from the sounds of it, will be the greatest hard sci-fi RPG ever. You can bet your sweet rear I'll be picking up both of those.

I haven't heard of this one. It doesn't have anything to do with Transhuman Space? Seeing that THS is from SJG, I doubt it, but I thought I'd ask.

I'm defintely going for it. I'll be using it for a average joe/modern hero kind of campaign. Maybe integrate 4CtF into it as well.

Just my thoughts.

We're already using the preview rules. Check out the link in my sig!

Our hearts will always be with good ol' D&D, but we'll be using d20Modern for one-shots and other short term breaks. What I think is really cool about the rules is that they are open for just about any type of modern game with little modification. So the biggest decision is - what genre to start with?! Military/commando? James Bond-esque? X-Files, Buffy, H.G. Wells, secret socieities with supernatural powers, or open magic in modern times with dragons and drow walking the streets?! These rules can work pretty easily for any of those. :)

On another note, my earlier posts being about D*M, I never actually posted about if I will be getting Modern. I probably won't be getting it the biggest reasons being that I already have D&D, CoC and Spycraft (and Feng Shui) and those fill the needs of what I would play perfectly. I don't need anything else IMHO and I rarely get to play as it is so I'll save my dosh for other gaming goodness ;)

I'll be buying it because it seems to cover many different aspects of non-D&D gaming.

I own both Spycraft & CoC and both are great. However they don't cover every need for every setting I can thinking. And I honestly don't have the time to convert those systems to my liking (I tried, it's a time thing). I don't mind dropping the $ to have WoTC do it for me. They did D&D, Star Wars (revised) & CoC just fine and I expect to have d20 Modern be just as good as those 3.

Now if I had issues with spending the money I coud see not buying it. That's really what it comes down to, IMHO. ;)

From what i've seen the great bonus to Modern is that it is so generic. Now, i've only looked at Spycraft and CoC, so i may be mistaken in my assumptions, but it seems that both are very specific in their scope. They each deal rather well for what they were designed to do - Spycraft being a hihtech spy game and CoC being an adaptation of Lovecraft's work.

The strength of Modern looks to be that it can deal well with almost everything. It can be a spy game, horror, or a Shadowrun type thang. The general nature of it makes Modern a great asset. I cannot wait to try it out.
