Hardcovers too eh?

When my local store gets 'em, it'll go next to my boxed set of RMSS and my 'red cover' of the RMSS.

I love that old system.

brain hurts just looking back at some of the rules n stuff

played RM to death , although each companion just produced more mighty (kewl)classes and more insane rules 'options'

Spell system was very good, rest a bit overly complex.

still have the original red stuff in a box somewhere. Cant imagine wanting to play it again, though occassionally play MERP

I remember my buddy and I ordering all the books with our babysitting/lawnmowing money back in '84 or so. We called the place they ordered them from and they said they shipped on Monday. By Friday they hadn't arrived and we were desperate, so we drove around town till we found our UPS guy and accosted him at the 7/11. Mercifully, he had them on the truck and gave them to us.

Hardcover releases of RMSS?

I'm getting the old 'game buying itch' again.

The one I have is the red cover version (after the brown cover bit).

It's a nice book.

As far as Rolemaster being complex, I find that d20 borrowed a LOT from that system in terms of skill point assignment, xp vs character level, and other areas. (And Monte finished the job with the unfettered being the RM rogue and the mageblade being the warrior-mage from RMSS.)

I loved Background options to death.

It's the only reason to play a common man. "Yeah, the high men are pretty cool, for you know, MERP rip offs and everything, but me? I got six friggin' background options! Score!'

Much easier to emulate some crazy stuff with those background options.

Worst was the player who'd make a common man and 'buy' a lot of equipment with 'em, run into combat, get killed, and make a new character who was a relative and demanded his brother's items. :p

We had a player do just this: He was the king's son, or some such, had a million gold, bought crazy items, immediately died, and then tried to "get the items".

I was GM, and unfortunately, he got killed by a Hydra, at level 1, the Hydra wasnt giving the gear back, nor was the party going back for it. lol
