Anyone seen Rolemaster Classic?

RMSS? When it comes to character generation -= throw as many rocks as you like. If you need more - I'll pass em over.

My only problem with RMSS character generation is having to buy ranks in categories in addition to skills.

Heh. I haven't looked at Rolemaster stuff in a long time. All I remember is the fact that I popularized Companion II with my gaming group. The chart that listed the similar skills and how having "this" would give you a quarter of your bonus of "that".

Ah, something else D&D nabbed from Rolemaster eh? The Competence Bonus. ;)

I haven't seen that book in over 10 years... Must find a copy.

A few years ago I bought a copy of Arms Companion just so I would own one. I still love that book.

Arms Companion eh? Is that the one with all those funky martial art maneuvers and all that other crazy good stuff? I used to love the Spell User's Compendium for it's list of Psion 'spells'.

I think that any borrowing that happened is what made some friends and I more comfortable returning to D&D with 3rd edition, and then on into 3.5.

That would be the one. I'll have to look through it again, but I think they had substitute levels in there too, and they might have had some association type classes that give the feel of prestige classes. Then again, my memory could just be faulty. :) I'll have to check when I get home tonight.

no way is the maths easier. Im sorry but that is an impossible statement to justify
one good thing about RM is that it did improve adding of numbers in the players.

John

Actually, it is easier to justify.

I've still got all my RM2 stuff but it's in terrible shape from all the use it saw. My RMSS stuff is much better off.

RM2 definately suffered from "skill bloat" eventually. And with the Similar Skills rules it got really crazy. There was also some power creep in many of the later classes (Magus, I'm looking at YOU).

Still we had tons of fun with the system for many, many years. I skipped 2E D&D entirely and went from playing 1E to almost a dozen years of RM/RMSS before we moved back to D&D with 3.0.

I won't be buying this; I still have all my RM classic stuff (I started with the blue cover Character Law, etc). I haven't played in a long time, though. (I agree with everyone who's mentioned the strong similarities between RM and 3E. When 3E first came out, I thought it was very much "RM Lite.")

Ditto on both counts.

RMSS seemed... a little souless or something. RM2 didn't have the best organization or balance or anything but damned if we didn't have fun in spite of all that.

You can blame me if it makes you feel better.
