Anyone still playing NWN?

I was playing it until I installed WinXP on my computer. Now the game freezes up after about 30 seconds of play. I've been too pissed about it to e-mail for some tech support.

I'm still playing. I'm running a solo campaign for one of my PNP players who is presently separated from the main group. We've had a blast.

Creating modules is still a very difficult proposition. Bioware has added some neat functionality with each patch but creating a module from scratch is still a monumental task.

The release of "The Witche's Wake" also had a module template that you could build on top of. Unfortunately it was not well documented and the little documentation that was applicable was cryptic to say the least.

I think that the scripting part is by far the steepest learning curve for most people. And if you can't script interesting NPC's and monsters then you will have to be an online DM.

I bought the game the day it came out. It cost me $400 because my computer wouldn't play it, so I upgraded my computer.

What a waste. The game is boring, unimaginative and repetitive. I recently installed the original Baldur's Gate and I'm currently playing through it. Even with dated graphics, BG blows NWN away.

Just my opinion, no flames, please.

I agree that the single player campaign was uninspired to say the least. However, the ability to create adventures for your friends and do it all online is great.

We are using Roger Wilco to communicate and it works out great. The adventures have been progressing at a good pace and my players are having a great time.

It would really help this game a lot, if Bioware actually published a good book of how to develop an adventure. Good documentation on the scripting engine is also needed. I know that there was a book published but it had too little iformation. Most of the things I've been able to do have been by trial and error and asking tons of questions of people online.

There is a new script generator by Lilac Soul available for download at Neverwinter Vault. It makes creating scripts much easier and contains about 100 more options than the default script wizards.

There is also a huge library of custom content available at the Vault, including new tilesets, monsters, and placeables. And the expansion pack coming out in a few months.

Anyone who buys the game and only plays the included Single-Player campaign is not enjoying the game it was meant to be played. NWN is a multiplayer game/toolset.

If you still have the game and want to try it the way it should be played (IMO), go to NeverwinterConnections.com and sign up for a two-hour multiplayer game. It takes about 10 minutes to register, create a character, and join a game. The site now offers a mentoring program if new players would like help from a NWN/NWC veteran. You can also host your own games, if you have a broadband connection. Many people just download a game from the Vault that they'd like to play, schedule a game for 3-4 other players to join, and then play it as a small group (many of the modules at the Vault are completely scripted, and have no need for a DM!). There are great conversions of The Sunless Citadel and the Forge of Fury that are great for this purpose, or you can download one of the top-rated modules at the Vault that are quite excellent, like the Penultima series, Parthenon, LoneWolf, Spires of Ravenloft, or any of the 1,000+ options.

I wholeheartedly agree with Lazybones.

That said, I haven't been able to play much, what with college and classes and all. Maybe once summer hits I'll be able to play some more. I liked playing in Lazy's servers so long ago.

Hail torment.

Names!! terrible terrible jester.

(got it myself recently.... the single player story is painful.... after you get out of the city things ease up a bit but it's still like a giant tech demo...)

still troika is doing an expansion so all hope is not lost.

Troika is doing the new temple of Elemental Evil game. Looks good. Floodgate and Bioware are doing the NWN expansions.

Ooops. cheers for the correction.

ToEE looks pretty cool. I had thought the shadows of Undersomethingorother was being done by someone I liked (with more of a story oriented background) but I don't remember hearing about floodgate before....
