Anyone tried Halo with D20 Future?

Just wondering if anyone has tried to do RGP version of Halo using the D20 Modern Rules?

Based on the info in the novels it wouldn't be a huge stretch to have a small group of Spartans for a group of PC's.

The toughest part to me would be doing the recharging energy shields. Anyone tired this?

Just wondering as this was an idea I had a while back, but haven't had time to pick up D20 Future to see if it would cover the needed equipment and such.

I made a few stats for a campaign based on Halo after playing the first game. I haven't had a chance to run it so I can't say how they work out in a game. I used D20 Future as a foundation.

See stuff here:

I don't have stats for the Master Chief power armor. I was just going to make my players play regular marines and maybe later in the campaign introduce the armor as a Large mech.

Chalf,

That looks like some great stuff, you have definitly put more thought than I had so far.

I like your idea for the energy shields, gives them the protection for a combat, but not to a point that it unbalances things.

If I ever get around to putting more thought in to mine I'll post it here.

I was actually discussing something similar with a buddy last night while we were playing Doom the board game. I think translating some of those FPS's video games into RPG's would be a blast. That said, I would NEVER do it with d20. The autofire rules in d20 don't cut it IMO and they certainly don't capture the feel and speed of chainguns on full auto. If you used the Shadowrun ruleset, now we're talking. :)

I kind of have to agree--I don't really like the autofire rules in d20 either. But I can see why they did it the way they did. Its very hard to write rules that are, at the same time, fun, semi-realistic and easy to resolve.

I have to admit: I haven't actually used them in play yet. So I'll reserve judgement until I do.

WHAT autofire rules?

I hope that you aren't letting d20 modern rules hold you back. Just because they have a craptastic set of autofire rules does not mean that you can't use one of the several other autofire rules in other party's books or make your own.

Again, if you refer to the d20 modern rules: he's right. They stink.

That's one of my two major points of disgruntlement that I won't play with in d20 modern unmodified. (Takyris knows the other one. ;) )

What would you recommend?

Personally, if I was in a Halo game, I would rather play marines. Spartans are a bit too tough in my mind, it wouldn't be as fun for a roleplaying game.

ODST all the way!

I don't know. What feel are you looking for?

I am sort of partial to the Dragonstar/Arsenal autofire rules for typical gaming scenarios if you don't want to make autofire really potent (it aims about the same place that the d20 Modern rules do, it's just their mechanic is more reasonable, I think. You don't have to have a feat to have a chance for multiple hits on the same target it just helps. It's just bacially for every five points above the base, you get an additional hit; every +3 points if you have the feat)

But if you are looking for a bit more of a "heavy metal" feel in which use of automatic weapons is frequent and deadly, I might try a remix of the T20 rule. Unfortunately, it hinges a little on their armor and damage mecanic, but the basic concept is X number of bullets translates into a certain bonus to targets you can hit, to hit rolls, and damage dice. It's quick, simple, and it seems to do the job.

What's the other, if I may ask?

I'm surprised anyone on the forum has to ask. Perhaps the debates are too old.

But in short: nonlethal damage.
