I really, really hate the grappling rules as applied to big creatures. They do it too easily. Improved Grab is too good.

The Spell Compendium is your friend. Revivify and Revenance are almost required.

I'm yet to have a TPK in AoW, and I doubt one will happen in the last session. The closest we got was in the Hall of Harsh Reflections.

Cheers!
Wait till you have characters with freedom of action. This negates grabbing and grappling altogether.

Merric, I know what you mean about high level over-complications. If it wasn't such a ball-ache to rework the encounters, I would make the adventure paths into level 1-12 rather than 1-20. However, in fairness to Paizo, they are offering what they set out to offer, with the inevitable constraints of the magazine space and time allowed. (In Shackled City, I had to effectively design lots of set-piece encounters for Occipitus from the random tables, for an example of time & space constraints). Also, if they hadn't offered these high level encounters I would not have seen what they were like, so thanks to them for that! (Of course, as you point out, their way of doing it may not necessarily be the only or best way.....)

G'day, Tim!

It's worth noting that I love high-level play. I just need the DM's side to be more streamlined with regard to running the opponents. :)

I wish I'd had the chance to run Shackled City; maybe sometime in the future.

Cheers!

I'm running two AoW adventures, one regular, another on-line. The first one we started in 2005, and we're finishing The Champion's Belt (we don't play very often) now. The second one started at the beginning of 2007 and we're finishing Whispering Cairn. I love to run this path. My comments so far:

Whispering Cairn - 4 out of 5. The Alastor break is very nice, Filge memorable. But all the Wind Dukes stuff don't mix well with the overall theme of the path, I guess.

3 Faces of evil - 2 out of 5. I liked Theldrik, but we skipped most of the dungeon here. Too long dungeoneering for us, I guess. They explored the maze and faced the Faceless One, though.

Enounter at Blackwall keep. 4 out of 5. We loved this. Marzena was a fun spoiled chick to play with, and the first fight with a Spawn of Kyuss was amazing (and terrifying for the PCs)

Hall of Harsh Reflections. 3 out of 5. My players loved the Dopplegangers attacks, and they mobilized Waterdep in finding their hideout. But the fight against Zyrxog was really tough, and we lost a PC here.

Champions belt. 5 out of 5. The best so far. Nobody bet, but the party was thrilled as a team.

Let's see was things goes. Good luck to your players, Merric! :)
