[April] What are you reading?

I finished Illumination (very good book) and started in on.. something, then got distracted by the fact that I'd never finished the fourth book in The Last Rune series, Blood of Mystery. Fortunately, it's a type of book where I can put it down for several months, pick it back up and remember most of what's happened. FInished that, went right on into Gates of Winter. GoW is, so far, a quicker read than BoM was, and I'm about half-way done with that. So far, I really like the series, save for one really, really annoying thing he does:

Knight: Milady, I finally have time to tell you this. I.. I.. Lo--
Bystander: Milady, come quickly! The feydrim have broken through the western gates!
Milady: Quickly, then, to arms! Oh, Sir Knight, you were saying...? I must be away to lead the battle.
Knight: It was ... Milady, it will wait...
[Weeks or Months pass]

About four or five times he's done this, at least once a book. Yes, it builds tension. To the point my eyeballs want to explode. It was good twice or so, but man...

Thankfully, Book Six is it, and it's out in August.

Just finished The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Pratchett. Entertaining but didn't quite grab me. Fortunately a quick read.

Reading The Boy's Tale by Margaret Frazer, a medieval mystery novel.

Up to Chapterhouse: Dune now. :)

I liked this one and the previous one better than most of the other Dune books. Once the two guys writing about the machine crusade are done, they're going to use notes from Dad to write the last novel he was working on.

...

I just read Scott Westerfield's Risen Empire books (the first, only?, two) ... fun to read, and I liked the backstory ...

So I've heard. I can't wait for it. But I have to say, I love the first book the best(for obvious reasons). As for the others, I can't really pick a favorite. Heretics and Chapterhouse have such a different feel than God Emperor, which is also different than Messiah and Children. I love the variety.

what's your take on the prequel stuff?

I've read the house trilogy, and am waiting for the last installment of the Machine Crusade ... They were okay (as in I did enjoy reading them), none of them blew me away or seemed spectacular (try scott westerfields Risen Empire though ... it was different enough for me).

At the moment I'm reading "A cavern of black ice, book one of 'the sword of shadows'"

Preety good, much simpler then dean kontz's fear nothing which I read before.

Currently reading

Book 3 of the Twilight of the Clans series (Battletech) "The Hunters" by Thomas S Gressman

The Silmarillion (again) by J.R.R. Tolkien

and A Clash of Kings, Book 2 of A Gons of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin.

I like them. Though I haven't read Machine Crusade yet. Though none of the books really hit me the way all the original books do. I fear this will happen with the 6th Dune Book to be written...but I'd definitely like to read it anyway. :)

I just got my copy of The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian from Overstock. Going to start reading it today or tomorrow.
