Arcane Trickster?

Datchi

First Post
I have a level 3 Wizard/ level 3 Rogue Tiefling (ECL 7). In a party with a Beefcake lvl7 Fighter, 7th level sorc and 7th level combat cleric.

My question is do you think an arcane trickster woudl fit well into this party?

Well, as long as traps are not a problem.

Since the Arcane Trickster doesn't loose much (anything except skillpoints?) to a rogue AND a wizard, go for it.

Go for it, arcane tricksters are pretty cool. if theres some problem with traps, summon some level 1 monsters and make them set the traps off. a wand of monster summoning 1 cl3 should do it :)

I'm playing an arcane trickster at our sessions right now and at level 12 (3 rog/5 wiz/4arc), the combination of magic and sneak attacks are, well, deadly :) hasted and with Expert Tactician, dual wielding short swords he can make 5 attacks at +10/+10/+10/+10/+5, for a grand total of 25d6 with sneak attacks, and improved invisibility really helps to get you going.

Imp Invis, really helps when you cast spells too, lightning bolts and fireballs coming out of nowhere is a treat before closing in for sneak attacks.

for weapons be sure to get some spell-storing stuff and put either inflict or vampiric touch in them. i love being low on hp and unloading a 8d6 drain on opponents. :)

For items be sure to get cloak and boots of elvenkind, +10 to MS and Hide is not to be neglected.

From a pure power perspective, the Tiefling is not a good idea (+ECL is bad when multiclassing as a spellcaster), but sure, if you like the race, go for it!

I'm playing an 18th level Elven Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster right now, with an 18th level Human Paladin of Heironeous, a 17th level Human Cleric of Heironeous and a 17th level Human Sorcerer/Wizard/Loremaster/Paladin of Heironeous, as well as a ~16th level Human Monk/Psion.

The Arcaner Trickster is really quite good! Go for it! :)

Thanks for the advice.

I think I will indeed go for it. Just wanted to make sure also that I've doen this correctly. I took Wizard levels first so that on going rogue I could get all 7 ranks of decipher script without taking a 4th rogue level. Is that Ok as I'm CL 6 I can have up to 9 ranks if I wanted it.

Thanks again

That's definately correct. The person who mentioned they had a 3 rog/5 wiz/4arcane just doesn't reach the requirements for that prestige class. You may not care, but you might want to pick up a level of Rogue as yer next level to be moral about it.

Yep. Unforuntately, exclusive skills have their maximum ranks limited by the class levels of the classes that get the skill, so you can only have your Rogue levels + 3 ranks in Decipher Script and therefore need 4 Rogue levels, regardless of the order in which you take them (you should definitely start with Rogue 1, tho).

Unless you house rule that (like we did ;)).

Acshully ya gotta be able ta cast level 3 arcane spells too so ya gotta have the 5th level of wizard too. Staggeringly good class though. Frankly, ya really shouldn't miss the skill points too much, just make sure ya play a wizard so yer primary stat is intelligence, and pump yer points inta to important stuff like search, spot, and disable device. Ya kin knock locks that ya can't pick, ya kin go invis ta git around hidin', ya kin polymorph inta an insect ta git around sneakin' and hidin'. But most importantly, ya git almost as much sneak attack as a rogue and almost as much
magic as a mage. One could aslmost make an argument that the class is broken. Someone who ain't me mind ya seein' as how I like the class and don't go doggin' my favorites.
