Arcane Trickster

The table for Arcane Trickster seems to indicate that at 2nd lv? (book not in hand) you gain +3d6 to your sneak attack, but the text for this ability (semi poorly worded) semi indicated that it's +1d6 per every other level.

Which way do you see this? If your in the +1d6 crowd why doesn't it just say +1d6 like so many of the other charts that give bonus sneak attack dice?

Isn't a 2d6 sneak attack a requirement for the class? I think someone made a mistake and simply wrote out the sneak attack progression with the dice you get by filling the requirements already factored in into that 3d6. It definitely should be +1d6 at all times, regardless.

The +3d6 is saying that the Arcane Trickster is continuing to progress with his sneak attack advancement: you need +2d6 SA to get into the class.. at 2nd lvl AT you go up to 3d6 SA, and so on. Identical to as if you had advanced from 3rd lvl Rogue to 5th lvl Rogue.

Unless, of course, you already had 3d6, 4d6 or more by the time you took the class, rather that the minimum requirement.

Basically, short answer (as tmaaas points out) is that it was a screw-up.
