Justinian: I mostly agree. Allow me to share.
Just got my 2 cases from Gameoutfitter. One of the cases was badly mangled which got me worried until I tore into the thing and found everything intact. *whew*
Distribution
The same as Dragoneye. I am missing 3 rares out of 2 cases which is exactly the same I was missing from DE. Much better than Harbinger. I can't see it getting much better than this, which is honestly, very good. The rares I am missing are the Paladin of Torm (I wanted this for a PC who is playing a Paladin), Aspect of Bane (no big, but I need it for the set) and the Gauth. On a personal note:
Uncommons: I wish I got a few more elementals (just 2 medium earth and one medium fire), xill, githyanki fighters & yaun-ti purebloods.
I got waaay too many: young minotaurs, evermeet wizards, psychic warriors and human psions. I'm not upset but it would have been cool to have more "critters" like the ones I listed above.
The Figures
The most impressive figures from the set, in no order:
Silver Dragon -
very cool
Aspect of Lloth - creeeepy
Clay Golem - looks like it should
Unicorn - nice
Hill Giant - about right, looks good. I want more.
Aspect of Orcus - size is good and impressive overall
Vrock - simply odd but looks scary
Graycloak Ranger - really nice looking, especially for a common
Cleric of Lathander - very nice uncommon. They got the look right.
Fire Elemental - so cute
Earth Elemental - looks good next to the large
Githzerai & Githyanki - very well done. Just like the books.
Yuan-ti Pureblood - See Gith, above.
Drow Sergeant - armor looks good, solid uncommon
Ragnara, Psychic Warrior - Just like the book. Cool.
Overall Look: Even the commons look pretty good. Compared to Harbinger and Dragoneye this is an improvement in quality. I am impressed. I want more undead and mooks in general but they will come in future sets. My only real complaint is the Ochre Jelly, it doesn't look all that hot, especially for a rare.
Personal Note: I got FOUR Drizzt *grrrr*, FOUR Red Wizards *guh*, 3 Ochre Jelly, 3 Bone Devils. Not cool.
Breakdown
If I had to give an ENworld 5 point review rating I would give this set the following scores:
Paint jobs -
4/5
Mix of usuable figures for the RPG -
4/5
Skirmish Game - ?? <- means very little to me at the moment
Sculpts -
5/5
Forgotten Realms figs -
4/5 (no Harpers?)
Fiends -
4/5 (I could see taking out a few like the young minotaur and catfolk for a few more actual fiends/devils/etc)
Final Score: 4/5
Distribution is as good as it will get. The sculpts are solid. The paint jobs should improve a bit but are good now. I would give this the same score as Dragoneye with its mix of figures considered.
