Archmage/Heirophant Touch->30' range ability + Chain spell metamagic?

To the casual bystander, the result is the same in both cases. But for certain related effects, the two are different. In one case, the range of the spell is still "Touch", and in the other case, the range of the spell becomes 30'.

The result is certainly the same - a spell that requires a ranged touch attack. Has the range actually changed? That depends on how one thinks the ability works - but given you need a ranged touch attack, I'd say the spell's range has changed. If the range was still really "touch" but could be done 30' away, it should need a melee touch attack, not a ranged one.

Hmmm... It looks like I've reversed my earlier position and would allow Chain spell to work.

Except that the ability that is allowing you to deliver your touch spell from 30 feet away requires a ranged touch attack.

It's like delivering an Inflict Serious Wounds with a Spell-Storing weapon. If you hit the target, you can cast the spell on him. You don't need to make a melee touch attack as well as the normal melee attack; the method of delivery has changed.

If I succeed with a ranged touch attack using Arcane Reach, I can deliver a spell with a range of touch from 30 feet away. I don't need to make a melee touch attack as well as the ranged touch attack; the method of delivery has changed. But the range of the spell is still the same.
