Are Devas Bald?

I don't recall anything written about Devas being bald, but in all the pictures I recall, they are either hairless or wearing headpieces--without any hair hanging out the back.

I don't think they're all bald, though it does seem to be common.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a deva picture with hair, though I can't remember where. I'll try and dig it out and come back!

According to the write up in PHB 2 Devas have hair but I've only ever seen one picture of a Deva with hair (can't remember where, sorry) but it was hair, not a head piece or helmet. I know because after reading that they had hair I was on the lookout for a pic of them with hair.

Of course as a bald man I think it makes sense that perfect and holy creatures such as the Deva would be bald. It's just common sense. :D.

The 4E PHB2 mentions that their hair color and pattern is usually the same as their skin. I imagine most artists prefer drawing bald or helmeted folks than having to depict that.

On the otherhand, if you are putting Deva's into your own campaign, you should feel free to describe them as fits your campaign.

I just worked up my wiki page on how the races map into my setting and devas were left as mostly human looking although occasionally something like the PHB2 description. Put another way- players could go with "normal" looking or "deva" looking but the world knows them as normal looking.

This is also in line with how our group's figure painter portrayed them. We had one in our set of PC figures and she looks like an elf, basically.

If I were to play a deva, I think I'd start out looking completely human, or nearly so. Then, as the PC went up in levels, I'd have the character start looking more and more "deva". Maybe go bald in mid-epic, or have the hair become somehow supernatural (e.g., blowing in non-existent breezes, moving on its own, changing hues, etc.).

They're bald if you want them to be bald (...assuming you're the DM). They're not usually bald in my campaigns. Of course, they're usually not purple-skinned with silvery facial markings in my campaign either.

Basically, I treat devas as 2e/3e aasimar. They're the distant children of celestial beings (e.g. angels). They have a faintly otherworldly appearance to them, but that could manifest in a number of ways: glittery skin (...makes more sense on a half-angel than a frackin' vampire... thanks, Twilight...), glowing eyes, golden hair (truly golden, not just blond), unnatural grace, etc. Many devas can't be distinguished from a "normal" human at first glance.

Considering the nature of the deva, I'd make their hair like strands of crystal or threads of silver or gold. Just cause.

PH2, the Bard PrC at least... (double checks) Nope, the FATESINGER Epic Destiny!

I see that the hair *is* coming out of a helmet, but I don't think that's just ..."implant" hair. I think it's real.

I like the idea of both. I see them in my mind without hair, generally, but that's when thye have blue skin. Like whatshername in Farscape.

However, I don't like to limit my players unnecessarily. If someone wants a Deva with hair, fine. Keep in mind they're *supposed* to be rare enough in any setting that they can go entire adventuring lifetimes without meeting and others. While WOTC made an exception almost immediately in an AP (a Deva city), I imagine that any one Deva may simply be unaware of the hair-challenged status of many others.
