Are hobby shops like porn shops?

A lot of hobby shops are like porn shops because:

1. They are full of bearded men and pimply teenage boys.

2. Everything you buy is discreetly put in a brown paper bag or black plastic bag.

3. A lot of people browse around the shelves but don't buy.

4. It's eerily quiet in the store.

5. Lots of funny-looking toys and games.

6. The store owners look kinda weird.

7. You walk in and out discreetly.

Of course, I'm not serious, but I thought some of the similarities are funny. Anyhow, not all hobby shops are like this, but when you think of the typical small store...

How many porn shops did you have to walk into to get this generalization

People, the fact that hobby shops and porn shops have a lot of similarities is not necessarily a good thing.

My Book of Vile Darkness was for mature readers. And adult book stores are for mature readers, well I put 2 and 2 together and went to the adult book store. I Pulled up to the place and it was just like a game store I go to. The windows covered up, guys walking in an out with brown bags, not talking to each other.

I walk in and see shelves and shelves of books and videos. Just like my game store!

I am thinking there are awful lot supplements for the Book of Vile Darkness out right now but hey gotta love OGL. I asked the guy behind the counter, who is reading a magazine not paying attention to whats going on, just like my game store!, what new D20 supplement I should get. He looks at me funny, says he doesn't sell that kind of stuff.

Now I understand, this is one of those game stores that are still plays and sells 2nd edition D&D. There a dozon other adult bookstores in my town, maybe they are selling the new supplements.

But the similarities are amazing, aren't they? I'm also surprised nobody's started flaming on me yet, but I think I was careful in not being too explicit.

Its a older bulding, I have moved away, but if you are ever in the Worcester Mass. area, check out Gamebro, great game store. I am going there for game in like 10 days, i will try to get pics, but the way the bulding is set up, it will have to more then one pic.
