Its a big Meh.

Gygax magazine aped the old Dragon. In a good way. But it seemed to just blow up.

But ya, there is this other alternative. I feel like I just saw something about it.

I'm with Lowkey13, I just don't have an interest in a virtual Dragon magazine. I subscribed during the 4e era, but rarely used the content and disliked the reading experience (the pdfs never seemed to be properly formatted for easy reading). Now if they brought back a print version of Dragon, I'd be back on board in a heartbeat. Antiquated, I know...

Lemon Curry.

It's not the support I'd like, but for what it is (a wrapper for a bunch of freelance articles, puff pieces, and now a free AL module) its fine.

That said, I'd love to see more and better puff pieces: Not everything in Dragon+ has to be an extended ad for some product. Give me more stuff like info on different parts of the FR (a piece on Waterdeep, or something on Amn), biographies (perhaps with a stat block) for Iconic characters (Drizzt, Strahd, etc), info on other worlds (an intro piece on Dragonlance, background on the creation of Eberron, a Demononicon article on Iuz), Monster Ecologies, Racial ecologies (like the Goliath or Duergar ones), things that can enhance a game, build the brand out, and introduce people to new ideas without needing pricy sourcebooks or playtested mechanics).

Nope. Frankly, I think the app and the content is "a joke". I am sure some people work hard day to day to deliver it, but ....yawn...

That said, it's free and I don't expect much for free.

I find it disappointing, though not terrible. The best thing about Dragon and Dungeon magazines was that it was a playground for creative concepts with official backing but less authority than a book. Sure, I like interviews and promotions well enough, but those were the garnish. Nice to have elements surrounding the meat of the magazine.

Dragon+ is just the garnish so far, which is unfortunate.

I don't see much value in Dragon+ since it started. This post prompted me to check it out again and I realized I had it installed already--which sort of shows my interest in it.

Personally I see Dragon+ as just a non-shortcut to articles and things you find on the main WoTc webpage. I would rather see a comeback of the real Dragon Magazine and not this poor excuse for an app.

I would rather pay a subscription fee and get an actual online magazine than pay nothing and get what we have now. Since they aren't going to be putting out the kind, and amount, of books I want I would rather get more material I could use and read through an online magazine.

I think we are seeing a wasted opportunity.

Why exactly are you laughing at this post?

I haven't had the time to sit down and read through any of the issues. When I do, however, I won't be under any mistaken impressions that it's supposed to be a renewal of Dragon of old. This is because Wizards of the Coast hasn't given any impression that it's supposed to be a renewal of the Dragon of old.

That being said, MAN ALIVE do I wish the Dragon of old would come back. I understand why it won't. But still.

:erm:

From the Escapist.

Dungeons & Dragons has an official magazine once more.

Wizards of the Coast has launched a new digital periodical, Dragon+, as a successor to Dragon Magazine.

Here is the link. Escapist.

It was put across as being and called "the predecessor" to Dragon magazine.
