Eberron is the only campaign setting WotC/TSR has produced since Darksun that's actually excited me very much (although neither Darksun or Eberron can ever eclipse the greatness that is the Known World/Mystara setting!). It seems to be internally consistent, well thought out, and has a fresh approach to a lot of items that have become cliched and boring to me. Not sure when we'll get a chance to run it (we're in the middle of a Mystara campaign now that's using the 3e Adventure Path modules and we're only about 1/3 way through) but I'm pushing one of our players to DM it on the side during breaks from our normal campaign.

What has Eberron avoided, IMHO, in comparison to other settings? The FR setting overall just doesn't make very much sense to me when you look at game mechanics vs. setting (e.g. there are a dozen or so archmages, paladin lords, and such in the city, but for some reason the King chooses a bunch of low-power monkeys to rescue his daughter). Greyhawk just seems, well, clunky and cobbled together (even after working in it for Living Grehawk for a few years). Planescape was too foreign (I'm not a big fan of plane hopping, other than special mission type scenarios); ditto for Spelljammer. I do mine all of these for ideas (e.g. I use Oriental Adventures flavor for Alphatians, some of the Flan info influences the Atruaghin Clans, etc.) but overall I've never liked any of the settings enough to run a campaign in them.

I will be playing in Ebberon I think, one of my DM's is really fond of Ebberon and the 'Warforged'. Personally, I do not think it to be really exiting.

Nothing about it has jumped out at me; if somebody wanted to DM it I'd play, but I have no real interest in it. From what I can gather, it's not my preferred flavor of fantasy.

I think the question is premature at best.

We have thus far only been given teasers and articles and previews, usually through the non-WotC arm called Paizo Publishing that was somehow supposed to not become a monthly billboard for WotC product articles.
*sigh*

Anyway, the point is that until you actually spend some time with the new rules, it is doubtful you can fairly decide if it's worth anything to you.

Magic trains don't turn me on. Dinosaurs don't turn me on. The "living constructs" race described in the recent Dungeon/Poly doesn't turn me on. In fact, I have yet to really feel compelled to buy the product, so chances are good it will be something I will browse for a while before I buy.

Most experienced DMs I know use their own setting, but they continue to buy Forgotten Realms or Scarred Lands to use ideas from those settings. I suspect the Eberron corebook will be useful enough for me to use a few ideas from as well, but I need to look at it myself instead of being fed incomplete pieces of it from Paizo/WotC.

I think I'll buy it because there must be something in it that is interesting, new, and maybe, just maybe, a little bit innovative, but from what I've seen of the all the teaser articles so far, I'm not impressed.

Yeah, what he said. Well, I can't compare to Mystara since I know nothing about it, but I am excited about what Eberron portends to be. I love to homebrew, but I just don't have the time anymore, so I'm inclined to start running Eberron if it meets my expectations of quality and flavor. Otherwise I'll be forced to follow through on my threats of running an all-kobold setting.

I'm probably going to buy it, but most likely I'll wait until GenCon and pick it up there. I don't usually buy much during the summer and then go hog wild at the convention, buying ludicrous amounts of books, and Eberron is falling into that time period. Now, if the reviews come in and say I must own the book, well, I guess I'll pick it up earlier, assuming I've got the money burning a hole in my pocket.

As for running it, we'll see how I like it. At worst it'd make another neat world for a Dragonstar campaign to visit.

Misleading poll.

I'm going to buy the book and ravage it for ideas.

That's not the same as running an Ebberon campaign, but I will certainly be using the book, I hope.

Ditto - -I'm hoping to Heavily "mine" this book and the IKCG for the core of my next Hombrew.

Dinosaur-riding halflings? Magical trains? Hard-boiled dwarven detectives? Ugh.

I'm a committed home-brewer in any case. I might take a look when it comes out, but so far it is not too exciting IMO. (It definitely does not look as original as Midnight or Dawnforge.)
