I was thinking of trying to get the original essay back up today or tomorrow. But ... maybe I should forever leave the topic to the negative space? I am not sure that what I was going to write (and will write) could possibly drive your imagination like this! Every artist's greatest piece, after all, is the one that they never got to finish.
Save it, and drop it in a few weeks. Lets this run its course.

I'd read it, but a new thread is probably the way to go.
 


It's why I prefer Portal Fantasy. I see no reason to use a Japanese term for something that did not originate in Japan.

I mean, sure, but this is kind of a distinction that ignores the point. Yes, Manga and Comics are different, but saying that Manga are Japanese Comics and that Comics are American Manga also isn't inaccurate enough to cause problems. In fact, framing them that way can be interesting in seeing what the differences are, and if those differences matter to the categorization.

To highlight my point quickly, The Simpsons and My Little Pony are both American Cartoons, but that doesn't make them identical and them both existing proves that American Cartoons is a wider category than may first be assumed.
