Argh!! Useless Rogues

....this really sucks when the first thing they do is flyby snatch the Greater Dispel caster. So, pretty much the opposite of what happened to you. ;-)
Ouch. :heh:

...Our current 12th level campaign is particularly bad at it because of a coward flawed ninja and an "I'm going to try talking to them" Favored Soul. My character has made a habit of saying in advance that he's going to say "I told you so" when the party won't, out of principle, jump in and kill everything in the room, and talking inevitably fails.
Too bad about the "talking will fail" trouble. Our present party is pretty cohesive. Our kill ratio proves it.

You've always got to love the:

"Heh, lets talk this out and..." <sneak attack the flat-footed NPCs> "maybe I won't have to kill you all." Rogue.

Also a Rogue with a Greater Dispeling scroll works real well as a backup.

Practiced Caster was made for this.
Good point - somehow I thought that only applied to class levels...
Dragons like loot.
The point was - if you're slinging around 9th level spells cast from items, then you can do a lot better than a single timestop.
Which is specifically what we're talking about. The ranged combat rogue that one rounded the dragon.
From 15 feet away. The 5 foot step wouldn't have changed much...
Read the thread before flaming please.
Saying that someone's rules knowledge is less-than-perfect qualifies as flaming now? Buh?

As for snatching the guy with greater dispel? He's also got dimension door... But either way - we're talking about the dragon spelling up ahead of time and springing an ambush in which he knows the PC's exact capabilities.
