The lab equipment is in a bad state, and while scraps of paper exist here and there, the only paper to survive is on a stand in the corner on a small writing stand, where the parchment is actually in perfect shape.

(My apologies, Shayuri, it is also magical and your elven eyes did see it as a magical stand.)

There is indeed a text of some sort on top of the stand, and you see the stand itself has a feather with fresh ink in the inkstand. The text appears to be in the wizards shorthand, but would require a bit of effort to truly comprehend.

If this is a simple roll, 1d10=10+6=16; if it's a stress roll, the botch dice are 5d10=1,9,4,8,2 so no botch (assuming 5 or less botch dice) and a result of 6.

The lab is certainly odd, and as a young magus you haven't seen that many other labs. But many samples of plants dot the room, and apart from the magic circle a number of wards, hermetic warding symbols and things that may well be warding symbols but don't use hermetic arts are scratched into the stones and through the notebook.

You would say this wizard was likely not strictly hermetic, and other than Herbam it appears as if summoning and controlling creatures through magic appears to be the focus.

"Have you found anything? I don't like this place. Fey, demon and what else..." Thomas asks, lightly disturbed.

"Not fey," Ilshana corrects. "Just a demon I think. But it's a baby demon, if that helps. I think this is why momma demon's so mad at the people in the castle."

"A baby demon?" Leo is surprised. "I didn't think they had those."

"The magus that lived here was obviously engaged in the conjuration of demons" he adds, "how foolish". Looking at the others, he concludes "Well, let us leave this wretched creature in its prison, at least for now, and go explore further, as Ilshana suggested".

"It LOOKS like a baby though," Ilshana insists...then she frowns.

"Of course...if it was a demon, I wouldn't be able to tell. You can't see through demons' illusions. That's odd. I wonder what it is. Maybe it's a demon baby that had a MAGIC disguise cast on it. I mean, there's magic all OVER this room. But why would someone do that?"
