Ashen Covenant - DDI Orcus Cult Article

Well, solo leaders are possible, since even solos sometimes have allies, depending on the encounter level.

That said, yeah, he's an elite in the stat block. Sigh...

I guess I should at least be thankful that the errors seem mostly relegated to the sample encounters, which are easily tweaked. I'm still pretty happy with the article as a whole, dang it! ;)

Unfortunately, it looks from a quick perusal of the math that the encounters are calculated with it as a level 10. :o

I'm really sorry about that. I changed a lot during my various drafts (as I said, was still learning the system), including the creature's level, and it looks like I wasn't as careful as I should've been in changing the other references. But AFAIK, the problems are just in the sample encounters.

Is it possible for the article to be "fixed"? Well, I know it's possible since it's a digital medium...but that doesn't mean it will be.

Nice going Ari.

Just plagued one of my groups with Huecuva in a 3.5 game. They handled them well on their second encounter with them, but nearly lost the Paladin to a coup de grace (had I chosen to have the critter try it) on the first encounter. Nasty things.

The Paladin got even by using his full allotment of Lay On Hands against the very last one while squeezed into a crawl space it was harassing the party from. (Party lacked a silver dagger, didn't matter. Creative players.)

Love what you have done with the template in 4e. Looking forward to reprising the mayhem in the new edition.

Not sure. I'll talk to Chris about it, though.

Cool...it's not a big deal, but it's a great article and it shouldn't be hard to tweak the document to rectify that little blemish. It would be a shame if they didn't take advantage of one of the main potential benefits of taking the magazines digital.

Great work Ari, grats.

I was wondering, since it is called Ashen Covenant did you have any inspiration from Ars Magica in formulating the idea?

Thanks. :)

Nope. I'm honestly only passingly familiar with AM; never played it, though I wouldn't mind doing so.

The "Ashen Covenant" is just a name I came up with years ago, and really liked. When I first used that name in a campaign (back in 2002), it referred to a group of vampire knights that eventually conceptually transformed into Mauglurien's Dark Riders as presented in the final article. :)

(Back in that version, he was a vampire, not a death knight.)

Any relationship to Ashenport? As in "Last Breaths of-"?

Edit: Actually, scratch that. Just noticed that the original adventure is still available, so I can read for myself if cultists are involved.
