[Attn: Writers who wanna write for Eberron] Plot workshopping?

Well, Express Mail does say it can deliver to PO Box addresses:

http://www.usps.com/shipping/expressmail.htm

However, if you got a return receipt, I believe that forces somebody to sign for your letter -- which might have messed things up for the PO Box address.

Anyway, good luck getting your money back -- and of course, next time you'll get it into the mail earlier. :\

No return receipt was required or requested.

I just can't believe that WOTC would list an address for an open call that is not... well... open.

WOw, Wulf. That truly blows.

Reading about your submission, I ran out to the car to get my reciept. My was delivered at 9 something in the morning on the 31st -- to the PO box.

I have the postal worker to thank for that, I think -- there's a check box on the express mail form that waives the need for a signature, and she suggested it to me -- had she not made that offer, I would probably be in your shoes.

Of course, having it stuffed in their PO box on the morning of the 31st does not mean that it was in their office by the end of the day. So, we'll see. I knew I was pushing it when I decided not to try to put it in the mail before the weekend, and try to clean up some of the typos.

I missed it. Life intruded in a BIG way while I was trying to simultaneously absorb the campaign setting and write down ideas. Once things had settled down again it was too late to finish, review, polish, and have delivered to Washington before the due date.

I quit at the last moment, mostly because I realized that I wont be having enough time to write the novel in the future (other plans in mind).

But my plot had cools things that are worth sharing here:

*The main character was Seth, a male kalashtar ex-Citadel member with one leg and the 'heart' of a warforged (during a recognissaince --sp?-- mission to the Mournland, he lost them to an accident, but an old warforged companion --see below-- sacrificed himself in order to save the leader and the mission, thus donating his heart, which was an ancient relic from Xen'drik that gave him life). In the plot, Seth was supposed to be uncovering the mysteries of some 'dreams' he was having, which really were the warforged's stored memories.

*Another character (Vins, a male changeling) has been raiding House Orien and House Lyrandar caravans and sailing ships for the past four years to build his own airship.

*Cyrus Barent (the old male warforged) was some kind of warforged 'prototype' which came into existence when House Cannith brought an ancient shard from Xen'drik that gave him life and helped to develop the warforged of the present. He was sent in a secret mission to retreive sources of negative energy in Aerenal, and the slaughter that he made there left him with guilt for the rest of his life, until he decided it was time to die and save a dear friend (Seth).

*The plot mostly circled around the four main characters trying to clear their fugitive status, which came when a corrupt Citadel captain framed them after they were sent (by the captain) to Eston (Mournland) with the purpose of salvaging some documents of a plan that the Blood of Vol was scheming there. The plan was to empower warforged with negative energy.

*I was planning a combat scene with a Lyrandar airship vs. Vins' airship. Now that's cooler that the top-of-the-train fight.

Anyways, I hope someone at least use these ideas for a campaign. Anyone went to the 'freelance for WoTC' seminar in Gencon?

Those were indeed a couple of cool things. However, I don't quite see the connection to the topic "wartorn". I hope I am not stepping on too many toes when I say that a few proposals rather strike me as "The war is over... And now for something completely different."

You can always submit a 10-page writing sample if you're so inclined -- though I would wait a month or two 'til WotC has done all their Open Call reading :)

Um ... that might have also made it into mine.

Hmmm, that seems to be a common motif... Double Check that for me as well.

:p
I think that there was maybe only an hour after the Eberron CS book was released that the idea of a climactic fight atop the lightning rail wasn't already a cliche.

While it's fun to hear about the proposals that coulda/woulda/shoulda got mailed in, I'm interested in hearing from other folks who actually did get their proposals in. What did you submit? Anybody care to share in that regard?
