Augment Healing and Vigor spells

Vorput

First Post
Augment healing from complete divine grants +2 hit points of healing per spell level for every level of a conjuration [healing] spell. i.e. CLW heals 1d8+2+caster level. CMW heals 2d8+4+caster level.

Anyway, this was in complete divine along with Vigor... also a conjuration healing spell. Does this essentially mean that lesser vigor now grants fast healing 3? Vigor grants fast healing 8 and greater vigor fast healing 14?

As per RAW, it looks like yes... but... is this therefore overpowered? Vigorous circle would grant fast healing 15 to 5 creatures for 20 rounds...

Am I missing something?

Personally, I would rule that either the vigor spell does the additional healing in the first round of its duration (but not subsequent rounds), or that the duration of the spell was extended tpo include the aditional healing.

Under the first ruling, a vigor spell would heal 8 hit points on its first round, then 2 hp/round for the rest of its duration.

Under the second ruling, which I like slightly better, the vigor would heal 2 hp/round, but it's duration would run 3 rounds longer (resulting in an extra 6 points of healing).

To me, the aditional healing granted by Augment Healing is for the whole spell, not each round of it.

Strictly, the Vigor spell does not cure damage; it merely provides the Fast Healing ability.

It should, as written, interact with Augment Healing in the same fashion that Remove Paralysis or Restoration do - also Conjuaration [Healing] spells that do not cure damage.

The Main FAQ does not take this view; rather, it agrees with OStephen's first proposed ruling:

What effect does the Augment Healing feat (Complete
Divine, page 79) have on lesser vigor (Complete Divine, page
186) and similar spells?

Augment Healing adds twice the spell’s level to the total
healing it provides. The simplest method is to have the spell
apply the extra healing to the first round of fast healing. Thus,
lesser vigor (a 1st-level spell) would cure an extra 2 hp of
damage in the first round, for a total of 3 hit points. Each round
thereafter it would heal the normal 1 hp of damage. Mass lesser
vigor (a 3rd-level spell) would cure an extra 6 hp of damage to
each target in the first round (for a total of 7 hit points), and
would heal 1 hp of damage each round thereafter as normal.

Yeah, you can!

We do it all the time! Heck, without arguing with the FAQ, this forum would be pretty dead! :D

I pray for the day WOTC inserts errata declaring the FAQ official :)
