[August] What Video Games you playing??

I've spent some time with Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance on my GBA lately. It's the first Castlevania game I've played since III on my NES. Pretty neat. Super Metroid's gameplay meets Castlevania.

On the PC, I want to get back to the Shadowlords series of mods for Neverwinter Nights sometime soon, but I've lately been mucking around with the demo of Lionheart. I can't decide whether I enjoy it or not. I'm leaning in the direction of waiting for the game to come down in price a bit, because I really like the ideas, but I'm less than thrilled with the execution so far. I also need to sit down and finish WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne. I was on the Undead campaign when moving and other aspects of real life put a halt to it and I just haven't gotten back into that headspace.

My GameCube hasn't gotten a lot of love lately, but between moving and budget issues, I haven't been able to buy many games, and the PC games have been winning out.

Playing Warlords: Battlecry on PC right now. Really liking it too. I hear that there is a sequal to this game out already also. Anybocy played both 1 & 2? If so, what did you think of them and what improvements did they make to #2?

Then you really need to play Symphony of the Night (PS).

I just got the Xbox demo for SCII (it's packed in on the current OXM demo disc), and it gives you a fairly decent feel for the game. It's pretty basic in that it's a four-stage version of arcade mode, where you pick between Cassandra and Nightmare, and you go up against (in order) Raphael, Astaroth, Taki, and Voldo. At least it gives you a suitable range of fighting styles to practice against.

I have to wonder if the difficulty level of the demo will be the standard difficulty of the final release, because it can give you a pretty good workout (at least if you're out of practice, and perhaps if you even are in practice). This is especially true of Astaroth, who seems to have picked up a love of low, sweeping hits that are particularly nasty if you're already down. Maybe the big ugly brute can pick up some extra bucks clearing away underbrush on the side. Raphael and Taki love to try to maneuver around you for a shot from the rear. Horizontal sweeps should help with that. Voldo? What can be said about him that hasn't already been said, other than the fact that the improved graphics make him look uglier than ever before.

The X-box version is the nicest looking of the three versions, by a slight margin. And don't sell short the demo of Otogi, also on this month's disc, which kicks major butt. One of the most noticable changes over the DV version is that the computer controlled characters dodge left and right MUCH MORE, now. That sweet, sweet control system has returned, and SC II is a joy. A guaranteed buy as soon as it hits the shelves, for me.

PC: Warcraft III (no expansion) & Magic: the Gathering Online
GameCube: Metroid Prime, then I'm going to finish those darn Resident Evil games. :)

The arcade gives an even better feel for what the games like.

He can be pretty dangerous in the hands of a good player.
