Avenger thematic build

I went with a Deva Avenger and Unveiled Visage PP for my flying avenger. Thematically, it works that the immortal aspect of the Deva's soul is manifesting itself. (I considered Favored Soul, but chose for the immediate satisfaction of flying on charges starting at level 11 over waiting to level 16 for the more permanent fly speed.)

I like the Deva for the sort of "holy avenger" theme. While the Gith and genasi are cool, neither really feel fitting thematically, sure they've got flying, but gith are pretty orcs and . Maybe if there is a "holy" genasi i'll give that a look.

I haven't looked into the Unvieled Visage much, seemed cool when I glanced at it, but I've been having difficulty with the Character Builder recognizing that I've taken a paragon path and have no idea why that's acting up.

Well, Favored Soul will give you the more consistent access to flight in the long run, with it's Level 16 path feature giving an always-on flight speed.

Unveiled Visage only gives a flight speed as an encounter-long effect on it's level 20 daily power, and the "flying as part of a charge" from the level 11 path feature.

Oh, and FWIW, Devas also have good stat synergy for Avengers, with +2 Wisdom and Intelligence, making for solid retribution builds.

Devas and Revenants

Regarding Deva:
They like to have wings as part of their armor. This might fight your vision.

Regarding Revenants:
Dex/Con bonus allows 17/14/14 or 17/15/13 starting stats.
Avenging Haunt Paragon Path grants level 12 utility Daily power "Haunting Form."
Minor Action: You gain insubstantial, phasing and fly (6 hover, maximum altitude 2) until the end of your next turn. Sustain standard."

Combined with Wings of Light (L1Daily) and Wings of Vengeance (L10 Utility), you have flight for an 2 rounds each encounter, and up to flight for 6 rounds for one encounter.

In play, I've never seen a fight where I'd actually want to fly and hover for the entire fight. This would allow you to do some crazy flying out of combat as well, especially for invading a castle, getting to a cliff top perch, etc..

Never thought about Revenants, not a normal playable race right? Honestly, constant flight and melee is unnecessary, line of sight is more useful when you're consistently more than 2 squares away. But our group is more heavily RP based than combat based(but you can't rp something your character can't actually do), so flight comes in handy for a lot of RP and skill challenges.
