i have an idea. just like the smoke out or any of the other myriad "try it for a day" plans we should have a bitch-out here at enworld.

no complaints for 24 hours, we can choose some day in the far enuf future to let everyone know and have a bitching free day.

don't like someone elses gaming style or commentary? shut the up.

24 hours of people who feel that nothing they do, or anything anyone else dores makes their game better or worse. i recentl returned form a few weeks in england, and you knwo what? those people roll peas onto the back of their fork to eat them, it was really odd BUT I STILL EAT PEAS!

who is with me? 24 hours, no complaints. if wotc releases news of the stick stocking poke piddler, nothing...if someone wants to talk about a world where undead do not exist, nothing...

This is one of the warm and fuzzy ideas that always sounds like a bad to me.

And here's why.

1) Discussions are about differing view points. There are always going to be differing view points. Hence conflict.

2) communication is an art, not a science. Therefor people will interpret a one person's wry sense of humor as another's outragous attack.

3) Progress is messured in corrections. Nessecity is the mother of invention. If people didn't complain at all, nothing would change for the better. And since most people turn to these boards to make thier games better, ... you get the idea.

Now on the other hand, if you want people to be civil, well, I'm all about that.

as far as that-

1) on my dream day you could shout your view point to the sky, just don't diss anyone elses
2) i am looking for good intent, not perfection, i have been paving a road to hell for years, why stop now?
3) make your game better, just spend 24 hours doing it without belittling anything, just 24 hours...

and yes, you are right, i am mostly wanting to do this for the civility, and just one 'mother-may-i" baby step past that

How would everyone know that it is in effect? I know we have the frontpage and the annoucement function but not everyone will see those. I guess many folks would put it in their sig but would that be enough?

As for the day (and I know I'm being hemisphere-centric here) maybe something like the first day of summer or something like that. It's far enough off at least.
