Away a while - what's the situation?

I've been away a while, playing lots of games, but not much d20.

What's going on in terms of all things d20? I'm especially curious about licenses and digital offerings. Is there any sign of the virtual tabletop yet? How's Paizo doing?

1. D20 is dead
2. someone else will have to speak to licenses and digital offerings
3. No VTT
4. Paizo is doing better than ever.

(And welcome back!)

There are plenty of VTTs (Maptools, Fantasy grounds, etc), just Wizards has not figured their's out.

Hey, I think I remember you! :) Glad to see you back!

OGL is still going, though not as strongly as the early 2000's, Old School games like OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord and Swords and Wizardry are the new fad (or maybe more, still too early to tell) and D&D 4e is still kinda divisive, though a good game on its own merits IMO.
I'm especially curious about licenses and digital offerings.
If you ever get into 4E, the DDI is almost a must-have - lots of content, the character builder is pretty slick, as is that monster builder they have.
Is there any sign of the virtual tabletop yet?
Not a peep, and not likely to be anytime soon.
How's Paizo doing?
Obscenely well. A lot of 3.5 fans rallied to 'em, and to be fair, it's a pretty good fix on 3E. I still think high levels don't play well, though -- 10th level and below looks pretty good.

Regarding VTT you said:

Do you know something we don't? It's just as likely that the VTT would be released this summer as 4 years from now, but my crystal ball is busted and I can't tell.

While the VTT isn't here, you can still very much play online with Maptool, there are a number of "frameworks" that let you basically run a game with a lot of data entry :)

I agree that Paizo continues to churn out excellent work. I just wish they have 4E stuff.

I have suggested before that WoTC should buy Maptool from RPTools and make it interface with their existing tools.

D20 is doing fine, Ryan. I thought I'd lost my BoVD, but it turns out it was just buried in the couch, so all is well.
