Awesome Blow feat

Can a player character pick up the Awesome Blow feat from the Monster Manual 3.5 if he plays a monster (like a minotaur) ?

If he can, when he uses it, if the target is knocked out of his threatened area, does that grant him an AoO ?

Page 101 of the Fiend Folio (Indricothere) gives such an example...

Thanks for all feedback !

As long as the character meets the Prereqs they can take the feat. There are no other restrictions to taking a feat than the prereqs.

By the letter of the rules it would grant said character an AoO.

Interesting, but the thread doesn't take into account the example in the Fiend Folio p. 101...
The Indricothere Knock Back example does seem to support the assertion that Awesome Blow grants the creature using it an AoO on the traget. Thank you, I was not aware of that example before you pointed it out.

Yeah...

So... all of you agree that one should allow it ?

I'd like more feedback, at least 2 or 3 posts, one way or another. I personally am not leaning on any side of the issue, I'd just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Custserv advises that movement due to AB should not provoke AoOs from the one delivery the AB, but should provoke AoOs from other creatures. In this instance, I agree with custserv.

It is important to note that the rules, as written, would allow the AoO as all conditions required to create the situation occur (movement from a threatened square with no specific AoO exception). I just agree with custserv that they *should* have made an exception in this case.

From a logical perspective, it doesn't make much sense. You to hit a creature so hard that it flies back so slowly that you have time to get in a second attack?

From a balance perspective, it is a bit of a toss up. In some creatures, this would double their normal attacks per round which is a very large change in power. In others (big earth elementals), they would 'regain' their sacrificed attack in the form of an AoO which is a minor adjustment in power. In others, particularly outsides with this feat, it makes the feat a useful option, though still unlikely to be picked over a full attack when available. I tend to be cautious with power levels, so I favor the more restrictive approach and don't allow the AoO.
