[B.A.D.D.] - Iconic dragons

I think he means using the MM STR, DEX, CON, etc... would be the same as using straight 10s for Redgar. (Average for the race)

However, the CRs are based on the base stats. I don't think the idea of an average dragon is comparable to the idea of an average human.

But regardless of my opinion, the plan is to go "by the book".

Yup, that's what I meant. I suppose you've got a point about the CRs though; even so, I'm going to maintain that a dragon with an additional net of +5 points would be fun!

I agree there.

But just wait until the iconics are complete.

Then we start the above average dragons
and the templated dragons
and the class leveled dragons

and the above average class leveled templated dragons....

I understand that there are Epic level dragons in the epic level guide. YUM

SPOILER for Bastion of Broken Souls

Hello,

I'm actually pretty anti-dragon.. I keep planning to do a campaign setting where they're more or less dumb magical beasts (very dangerous magical beasts, but more on the behir scale than the current dragon scale). No spells or anything like that, etc. I just think they've been a bit overdone in the "insanely dangerous death machine" category. However! That is neither here nor there. I hope I do this SPOILER SPACE bit correct...

I looked at a copy of Bastion of Broken Souls in the ol' game store today, and Ashardalon looks really, really, really dangerous. 19th level sorcerer spellcasting ability, half-fiend red dragon with 700 hp. He's doing some wacky deal where he feeds off the souls of newborns before the babies get them or something -- I didn't have much time to look and couldn't buy the module.. today. There's something about Demogorgon in there as well. Uh, never done this spoiler thing. If I didn't do it "right", I'll edit it all out.

Spoiler space worked fine, thanks for the info! I actually made Ashardalon into a great silver wyrm in my campaign. He's the one who slew Gulthias with a staff of healing, and .... I'm rambling again...have to save it for a story hour.

BTW... I don't think you're that "anti-dragon". Having dumb, beast-like dragons is just a campaign choice (very Conan-ish, nothing wrong with that) , and I would guess that most B.A.D.D. members just want dragons to be challenging, and not pushovers or too deadly. Walking that fine line is tough since they're so complex...

My favorite dragons, actually, have so far been Moorcock's Melnibonean dragons. Dumb as stumps in most of the books (or at least, they don't -seem- very intelligent, it's not too clear), they sleep most of the time, and instead of breathing fire, they drip extremely caustic acidic venom that causes wood, flesh, etc to flame on contact.

You're right, it's not really anti-dragon, I'm just kind of tired of the ol' intelligent/godlike/ first-race type of dragons. I guess I read too many Wyrms of the North columns, hehe.

Oh, and I agree with you about Ashardalon.. up until glancing through Bastion, I definitely had a good-guy view of him, heh. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention in the earlier modules.

These Dragons will be posted on the B.A.D.D site ?
Great idea... easy and fast Dragons acess that will be less prone to disposability.

Spells lists and treasure hoard !!! Coudnt ask for better... hope some background and personality too.
