Baby - T-0 and Counting!

Well my wife is supposedly due to have our first child today. At the moment though it looks like it will be late. I'm guessing it will be late by a good couple of days. We have a meeting with the doctor on Monday to discuss inducing her. In Australia they generally don't let you go more than 10 days over before they bring on the labour (via a particular drug).

I think we're both as ready as we're going to get now and we're just in a bit of a holding pattern while we wait to see what happens. Nervous but excited is how I would describe how I'm feeling at the moment. We both can't wait to finally meet it though. :D

Webcam! WEBCAM!

My wife has already banned any video cameras from the delivery room (not that I planned to video it anyway!). I am sure my life would be ended quickly if I showed it to the whole wide web! :D

Plus, after seeing a baby being born on one of the videos they show you at birthing classes, I think I can safely say that not many people would want to see it anyway. It definitely isn't pretty!

P.S. Never try and argue with a heavily pregnant woman. You will never win! ;)

Yeah, I've seen it firsthand a couple of times now. I wouldn't tape it. :)

Good luck! As I recall, one of the healthiest and easiest things to get labor moving along is nookie. Just sayin'. :D

Yeah, my wife has been made well aware of that fact, and funnily enough, not just by me!

I heard spicy food works well.

My wife went into labor the day after we ate enchiladas for dinner. Maybe you need to go out for Mexican or Thai food?

Good luck!

Good luck to you and your wife. My one piece of advice is to not let the doctors dictate the delivery. 10 days late isn't a big deal, sometimes the date is off, sometimes baby just isn't ready. If your wife is still feeling OK, and there is no sign of problems with the baby, try and let it go until your wife's body decides it is time.

Oh, and get your wife to relax as much as possible. Stress tends to slow things down - its an animal nature thing having to do with delivering the baby when it is safe to do so.

Good luck Olaf!
My wife had her labour induced as well. In her case there was a small fluid leakage so they couldn't leave it. I wouldn't worry too much if it is induced. Also, I'm not sure but I think there is a medical reason to not let it go on too long- not sure I remember what it is though.

Hmm, nookie or thai food...Not a hard question.
