Actually, centuries ago they thought all vision worked like this, so it's not too far-out. Then again, they also thought the heart was the seat of consciousness and the brain just cooled the blood, hence the heart's association with emotion in metaphor and popular culture. Isn't history fun?

More than a decade ago when 2e was still kind of new, I played in a group where the DM had this rule:

If you want to become a god all you have to do is say it and your god will come down and give you a test, if you pass, you are then made a god, if you fail, continue on as if nothing happened.

I only played in that campaign once. It was boring, everyone was too busy taking their test at first level.

Back in 1e my DM did the "killing blow" house rule, too. We all ganged up on him and talked him into changing it.

Diaglo, I apologize to you. If I had had to deal with the crap-tastic house rules in 3e that you've faced, I'd probably be playing TWERPS or FUDGE. Good god, man! You've had it tough.

I have to agree. Eep... that's enough to turn someone off any system.

These sort of experiences may also be why I almost always DM.

As for you dorks, yes dorks, arguing about Darkvision, infravision. ITS MAGIC. Can you explain to me how a portal gets opened, how about how the dead are turned into undead. How about raising dead. I want a great debate on how these work in the real world.
