Balancing Polymorph?

Since a lot of people I respect hang out in D&D Rules, and since there's more traffic here than House Rules, could you please, please, with sugar on top, take a peek at our group's house rules to avoid abuse with the Polymorph spells, and provide some feedback?

The thread is here

Sorry for the shameless plug, and thank you for your comments.

I recommend waiting til July, when WotC will be substantially revising the polymorph self/other spells into polymorph and baneful polymorph. From the sounds of things, they will have dealt with the worst of the abuses.

I hope.

Maybe a good idea... Any rumors as to the changes?

They discussed it in a recent Dragon- not sure which, off hand. Basically polymorph is when you want to change yourself or a buddy into something buff, and it doesn't last forever. Baneful polymorph turns someone permanently (I think) into something small and harmless. There's a bonus to the save vs. baneful polymorph if the form would be lethal (a fish in the desert).

IIRC, anyway; you could prolly search out a thread about it if you looked hard enough.

My main problem is that baneful poly just looked like a renamed poly other with a bonus to save if the form would be lethal.

So unless there is some other penalty involved everyone will just use "baneful" polymorph to turn thier fighters into giants. Which is the exact situation we have right now.

Unless the original poster is right, and baneful polymorph can only be used to change somebody in a tiny animal or somesuch. It would not surprise me if that would be the case, considering the arguments behind the changes in the two spells even though it was not directly stated in that article if I remember correctly.

Er... no, baneful polymorph turns the target into something small and harmless. If you want to turn your fighters into giants, you need polymorph. As I understand it.
