D&D (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread +

Legend
Because the other thread got derailed so badly by the Stealth discussion, here is a new thread that compiles all the known errata (read: differences in text between the print version of the 2024 PHB and the digital version available on D&D Beyond). If people find any more, I will update this post. That being said, I hope we will get an official errata document soon.

Note well: I've made this a + thread in an effort to keep the discussion on errata. There are plenty of other threads for discussing things that may or may not need errata but haven't received any yet (stealth and hiding, dual wielding, conjure minor elementals, spirit guardians, etc).

FEATS

  • GRAPPLER: Under "Fast Wrestler", the print version says that your "speed is not halved" when moving a creature you are grappling. The digital version instead says that "You don't have to spend extra movement" to move when you are grappling someone.

  • POISONER: Under "Brew Poison", the print version states that the poison lasts "until you hit" (among other conditions). This meant that if you dealt damage on a miss with a Graze weapon, you could deal the poison damage without losing the poison. The digital version has changed this to indicate that the poison lasts "until until you deal damage" (sic - including the doubled "until" to show that it's been edited).

  • TELEKINETIC: The printed version only increases the range at which you can cast mage hand. The digital version also increases the "distance it can be away from you".

EQUIPMENT
  • SHIELDS: The print PHB gives no indication of what kind of action, if any, is required to don or doff a shield. The armor table in the digital PHB has been updated so the Shields section now reads "(Utilize action to don or doff)".

SPECIES
  • GOLIATH: Under "Powerful Build", the print version states that goliaths have advantage on saving throws to end the Grappled condition. This did nothing, since the saving throw was to avoid having the grappled condition, whereas you still make an ability check to end it. The digital version correctly states that goliaths have advantage on ability checks to end the Grappled condition.

SPELLS
  • BLINDNESS/DEAFNESS: In the printed PHB, this spell's school is listed as transmutation. On DDB, it is listed as necromancy. It was the latter in 2014, so it's unclear at this stage whether the printed PHB is in error or if DDB is.

  • CONJURE WOODLAND BEINGS: In the printed PHB, this spell only increased in damage for every spell slot level above 5th. The digital version indicates that the damage increases for every spell slot level above 4th.

  • GIANT INSECT: In the printed PHB, the statblock for the giant insect grants "+10 hit points per level of the spell". The digital version adds "above 4th" to that.

  • TRUE POLYMORPH: Under "Creature into Creature", the printed version includes this sentence: "The spell ends early on the target if it has no Temporary Hit Points left." This sentence has been removed from the digital version of the spell. (However, the spell still has an issue in that the target of the spell appears to be unable to speak or cast spells even if their new form would ordinarily allow them to do so.) UPDATE: Never mind! The sentence is back!

Not yet.

They really should be posting errata updates aka changelogs instead of just doing stealth hotfixes.
I expect they will post an errata document soon. Remember that we're still in the "early access" phase - this is essentially beta testing at this point. I would expect an errata document out later this month after the PHB is fully released.

This thread is just to tide us over till then.

Early access, beta, playtest- yeah I guess they're using players to highlight issues... but you still post a changelog; the primary reason not to do so, in my mind, seems to be to avoid embarrassment for having released with mistakes? With most other TTRPGs I'd expect a proper errata document, but since this seems to be handled more like a software release I've gone to using those terms- show a changelog so everyone knows what's been altered since they last looked at the rules!

To be fair, this might fall into the oversight category instead of a editing error.

I.e. they intended it to scale that way for wizards and druids, and just didn't think about how it interacted with quicken Eldritch Blast.
It's possible! This might also be one they've decided to monitor for a while, like they did with healing spirit back when it was new.

NOTE WELL: THE RULES FOR HIDING / INVISIBILITY / STEALTH / ETC HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED (YET)! DO NOT DISCUSS THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE RULES IN THIS THREAD. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER THREADS ON THIS FORUM IN WHICH TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE, INCLUDING THE OTHER ERRATA THREAD!

Thank you for this. A lot of these look like just adding a few words to clear up intent to me, which is great. Nice to see the change to Giant Insect though. I'll keep an ear to the ground to see if I hear any other changes.
