Balancing Wizards and Clerics

Again, it is not the job of the OP to get that fighter into melee. It is the job of the PC wizard to defeat him! It does not matter if the wizard can teleport, fly, expeditiously retreat, etc. If he doesn't face and defeat the fighter, then the wizard loses and gains no xp. Perhaps then in that case the NPC fighter actually gains xp for defeating the wizard!
If the Fighter tries to pull a "You Shall Not Pass" and the Wizard simply teleports past him and continues on his merry way, I think we can say that the Fighter failed to do anything. I mean, I guess you could say the Fighter won because the Wizard did not face him in combat, but that's like saying the Communists won when MacArther bypassed their forces to make his naval landing at Inchon.

Meh. So the wizard casts a conjuration. All he's going to do with it is A) acid spells which are easily resisted with readily available low level magic or B) cast a summon spell which takes a full round during which the wizard cannot even move! Mage-slaying fighter charges FTW.
Grease. Web. Sleet Storm. Solid Fog. Try charging through one of those.

]These and thousands upon thousands of other ideas should be more than enough to keep a PC wizard in check. Lets not get off the topic of a PC wizard being overpowered by RAW. I'm sure it would be a fascinating debate about the fighter and the wizard, but that's really not the point here.
Of the many options, I feel that throwing out a mage-slayer is the least effective. It essentially puts everyone in an arms race, which has historically lead to much dickery.

Thinking about it, I personally would advocate removing overpowered spells - assuming, of course, one understand what is overpowered. (Polymorph, Solid Fog, etc, but not Fireball.)

I should also note that Dandu's Wizards typically have a much higher AC than you'd expect, making appropriate level fighters have a difficult time hitting them with iterative attacks with any degree of consistency.
I have a level 10 of his with 28 AC.

Thus, your "one round" turns into two, and opens up more possibilities for the wizard dickery that you're trying to avoid.
I agree with Dandu in that mage slayer type fighters are ineffective at defeating optimized mages, though tend to mow through poorly played wizards without too much difficulty.

Wanna kill a Wizard?

Use a Psion. Or a Scion. Drive the second one really fast at him.

Well Dandu, as I have said the DM can find a way to make any encounter challenging. Don't forget, the PC is supposed to win in the end anyway, whether he is a wizard or not. Spellcasting classes are definitely not unbalanced if you stick to the rules. I have run a campaign myself and know this to be true. Your DM has a lot to do with how your wizard plays. If you think there need to be changes in the campaign world, let him know. I for one feel 100% confident that if your wizard was in one of my campaigns, he would find plenty of worthy challenges and rewards no matter how munchkin he becomes.
