Balancing Wizards and Clerics

All in all though, nothing much you can do to balance out casters with the other classes without cherry picking OUT the spells with vague wording or massive negatives that can't be countered except with other magic. (typically freedom of movement as the fix vs the powerful spell)

I think the fix to ballance casters with non-casters is to give the non-casters spells.

Out of spite I once made a Fighter, used a feat to make Perform a class skill, maxed ranks and equipped him with all the string instuments in the Magic Item Compendium that cast spells (Anstruth Harp and the like), as well as other useful gear. He refused to use weapons. It was for a one-shot campaign. Much fun.

Tome of Battle tried that, it sort of works...sort of doesn't. Besides, giving everyone spells means that no one is special and I like the feel of being powerless to stop a wizard from casting spells and all I have as a defense is my own will power and physical strength.

I love how a lot of the classes feel different and encourage different tactics give them all spells even a couple and they all become the same.

I do like that idea you did for that campaign though, fairly interesting.

The problem with wizards is that they have so MANY options available to them.

By limiting their access to schools down to a single school you do reduce those options quite a bit.

If you want to get extra evulz, do the same with Sorcs... it might make for an interesting campaign if a Sorc can only choose from a single school for ALL of their spells...
