Baldur's Gate Enhanced Gets Bigger

Beamdog has just announced a new expansion to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. It's called Siege of Dragonspear, and covers events between Baldur's Gate I and II with 25 hours of gameplay. Additionally, there's a new Shaman class and four new party members.

"Though Sarevok is dead and his plan for war averted, peace eludes the citizens of Baldur's Gate. A crusade marches from the north, seizing supplies, forcing locals into military service, and disrupting trade along the Sword Coast. A charismatic warrior known as the Shining Lady leads this army, her background shrouded in mystery. Can the rumors be true—is she, like you, the child of a god?

The closer you get to the Shining Lady, the more you realize your father, the dead Lord of Murder still casts a long shadow upon your path. Baldur's Gate has put its faith in you, but you must determine whose interests you truly serve before you face the Shining Lady among the ruins of Dragonspear Castle...

Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear adds a new chapter to the Bhaalspawn saga. The events occurring between Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II are at last revealed in this 25-hour expansion pack for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition."

So how enhanced is this "enhanced edition"? Will a typical 9 year old machine have no trouble with it? or would my dinosaur be healthier sticking with the classic version off of Good Old Games?

It can run on windows XP/Vista with 512mb ram. It also comes from GoG, or you can buy it on your shiny new smartphone/ipad (assuming you have one).

By "Enhanced" they mean that they added some new NPC characters, a new arena adventure, some new voice acting, bugfixes, and everything works under the BG2 rules.

They also added support for widescreen/modern day screen resolutions and a zoom in/zoom out feature. The BGII rules means you can use kits and classes like the monk are available.

But it really doesn't change the game in fundamental ways (e.g. wow I wish they could have updated the UI/Inventory as it feels painfully antiquated at this point).

And it only took some fifteen years to create an explanation for what happened right up until you wake up in Irenicus' dungeon!

I found a lot of the inventory changes made to the basic principles of the old BG-era games in Pillars of Eternity to work out pretty well (still a lot of clutter and management required for that clutter), so rather a lot of me doesn't want to go back for a replay. I had heard that the enhanced version can be played on a tablet, though, which suggests that they'd streamline some of the commands. Though I have no idea if that's true or not.
