Barbarians on prozac

Problems? You mean aside from the fact that even a mentally handicapped orc should be able to tell the difference between employers who aren't safe to be around, and ones who are?

Unless, of course, the PCs really aren't safe employers. If they are the types to use violence against their underlings, fine. But if they aren't, this doesn't make much sense.

Oh, and btw, if there's anyone with alchemy or herbalism in the party that watches her cook, they're likely to note that what she's using aren't normal spices...

That's a cool idea.

I think I'd work it so that the PCs eventually learned about it somehow (after the first time Rage didn't work) and then let them use it however they wished.

It could come in handy in times....

Though I would suggest that the herbs she uses are for "flavor" - and she had no idea that it had any effects. The head orc cook told her to put em in, she put em in. It makes the food taste better.

excellent :)

I think it would be more amusing if it was accidental, if the players are decent to their cook. Also, anything you use against the players can be used by them. After all, what is to stop the barbarian from inviting his barbarian rivals to a feast, take the antidote before hand, and rage on them.

On the other hand, it is better than what else the food could do. (Let's say you would have to rename the thread Barbarians on Exlax.:D )

the players are decent to the cook, but she will ASSUME that decency is caused by the herbs.

If her only measure of decency is getting beat up or not, okay, I guess. Unless those herbs enforce not only calm-headedness but also politeness she will still see a difference. The drugs may keep temper in check, but do they stop a critter from being chaotic evil? *shrug*

Prolonged usage

You might want the cook to increase the dosage from time to time, as the PCs may start to become used to a certain dosage. As she increases the herbs, you may want to have the PCs suffer side effects (poor memory, fatige, nausea, etc). You could make a table and roll randomly for each PC... just remember to have "No Side Effect" as one on the choices.
