Bards and components

Just a small idea I had last night, which I wanted to share.

Bards cast all of their spells with verbal components, even if the spell doesn't have one. Further more they can't use the Silent Spell feat.

How balanced would it be to make all Bardic spells which have somatic components but no verbal ones (which I don't think is many) instead have a V component and no S component?

It really depends on how you use components in your games. THe bard would have to drop any instrument he was playing to do this. I really don't think it would be that much of a balance issue. I think the V components for all spells is more of a flavor rule then a balance rule.

Out of curiosity is there a particuliar reason you want this?

Nope, not really, just an idea I thought I'd share.

For the record, this would affect three spells - Hypnotic Pattern, Gaseous Form, and Mislead. They all have somatic components but no verbal ones, so it'd just reverse that for bards.

So it's pretty much a flavor issue.
