Bathrooming

And here I thought this was a GenCon thread...
I thought it would be about how to keep the pace in the face of players taking bathroom breaks, or something similar.

I hoped it wouldn't be about role-playing out bathroom activities.

Strangely enough, that's exactly what I expected. :\

I was even ready with my treasure-in-the-bottom-of-the-outhouse and treasure-swallowed-by-a-big-monster stories... :)

I do the beer-run or (when I smoked) smoke run break. I'm pretty rarely suprised by the last few lots of gaming beasts I've had. ;) Half the time I'm leading them through the field. The absolute few times I've been caught...(man I could go for a pint of Jager). pow, they lost track of what ever derailment mechanisim they had a hold of. I can pry their fingers off it with a haste. I have kind of pwned the last few groups I've had. It was never a worry. TO be honest, the last two DG rounds at cons I've ran I've pwned the beetches. I think the thing is being a good DM and hauling the players along to funville with you.

:)

Good, because the description of Stinking Cloud is adequate.

An occassional break in play is a good idea, as sometimes players and DMs have to reflect on what has happened in game.

I've never tried this before, mainly because I fully expect the PCs to do the unexpected (yes, I know - work with me here...), so nothing they do can really surprise me. Still, it's a good option to keep in mind.

Bathroom Time

Ours is a fairly big group, and the apartment we play at regularly isn't. There are three actual rooms in the apartment - the living room, the bedroom, and the bathroom - and since the host has declared his bedroom off limits, any private conversations between the DM and a player happen in the bathroom.

Last campaign, three characters were disintegrated in the bathroom, one right after the other.

Someone also ate a strange black lozenge in the bathroom that gave him +1 Wisdom.

Bathroom Time in our group is sometimes deadly, sometimes beneficial, but it's never boring.

:) :) :) :)

Well that is a totally reasonable (and tactfull considering the hideous scatalogical directions this whole thread could go) idea. Just periodic breaks. I do it, just because I will get up from behind the screen and make a minor show of needing to get another drink, snack or (back in the day of smoking sweet, sweet cigarettes. ..I just quit two weeks ago back the frell off). smoke. And players followed suit, they are easilly distracted sorts after all.

erm... my guys... just.... play. thats it. they do the typical good thing, or the typical evil thing. very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very rarely does anything interesting happen that throws storyline off.

BUT IF IT DOES...

the game is usually over. I just recently stepped down from DM and the 1st night of the new DM threw the story off and we took about 1/2 - 2/3 of our time waiting on him to "finish gettin ready"
