D&D General Beadle & Grimms Forgotten Realms Premium Map Collection

it is good to see that the 10 regions are larger regions not necessarily tied to the mini-settings in the DMs book
Well, but no, tgere is a pretty ditect correlation:

  • Trackless Sea > Moonshaes
  • The North (traditionally the Dsvage Frontier or Sword Coast)> Icewind Dale
  • The Sword Coast (Western Heartlands) > Baldur's Gate
  • The Heartlands (Eastern) > Dalelands
  • Lands of Intrigue > Calimshan

So, as suspected, the DM zoom in choices coincided with 5 of the Gazateer regions.

I wouldn't expect much at all from the Beyond areas.

We saw a Spellfire origin feat. And it mentions Aglarond as Sorcerers. Although the description of the Spellfire Sorcerer subclass mentions Old Empires Region, although I would think Old Empires Region would get something more religious, divine magic in theme.
I would have linked Spellfire with the Heartlands, given where the Soellfire characters were 150 years earlier.

Interesting that they sectioned off Thay and Algarond (and weirdly Atumbel) as Arcane Empires, but there is only two and it feels weird leaving out Halruaa from that list even though it's far away. EDIT: got a closer look at info on the DM screen and Arcane Empires also includes Rashemen.

Thay is definitely the archetypal "arcane empire" in the region, Aglarond and Rashemen definitely have the "arcane" part what with being ruled by powerful female magic users, even if they're not quite "imperial."

However, bear in mind that in 4e High Imaskar also popped up in that area, and with a bit of a stretch you could say the despotic Dragon Princes of Murghom have a lot of arcane power to bring to bear.

I also want to point out the DM Screen confirms the Purple Dragon Knights now ride Amethyst Dragons. The Faction blurb says the order made a pact with them a decade ago, which would be around 1491 since we know the current year in the books is 1501.

Edit: which makes me wonder if the PDK Factions renown rewards might include a pet dragon?

If I remember right don't they get A Dragons egg?

I really wonder what the other factions get that can compete with that.

High Imaskar was in the Old Empires Region, Mulhorand specifically and got banished to extradimesional spaces & the Desert of Desolation when Mulhorand returned.

Weirdly the area of the map that is colored for Arcane Empires does skim abit of Murghom I think.
