It's one or the other, I'm afraid - there is a listing describing which actions are "shared" and which are independent., and while movement can be done by both ranger and companion, and in different directions if you like, attacks come from either the ranger or the beast.

The character and the beast both act on the same initiative, both get to make a move action, but there is only one standard action between the two.

So only one of the two would get an attack during the turn. However, there are several encounters and dailies that allow your beast to make a melee basic attack as part of the power.

In general, unless the power states that your beast companion gets an attack, either you or the beast gets to attack in any turn (action points not withstanding).

Nope, only the Ranger or Beast get a standard Melee attack. Powers allow Beast and Ranger to each have an attack. This is in Martial Powers.

well that sucks . :( i guess that over power him

It's not too bad, but yeah, getting standard actions from both Ranger -and- beast would be Too Much.

Keep in mind what you -do- get:

1. If you're knocked unconscious or otherwise disabled, you get to move the beast around and have it participate in the fight for you (even if you die).

2. You can position yourself and the beast next to different creatures, and can take opportunity attacks with either (but not both) of you.

3. While the beast's damage doesn't scale with a weapon (its to hit scales quite nicely; possibly better than yours), you can get items that will boost its damage really well, and unlike every other ranger, you can wield a big two-handed weapon rather than two weapons if you want and do quite well with it--inflicting, say, 1d12(brutal 2) + Str + shift the beast with an at will, or 1B+1d12(brutal2)+beast's strength + your strength + your wis as a first level encounter (which is, in fact, an encounter-level upgrade on the twin strike you don't have). Or, at ~26th level, 10 (sigil of companionship (epic) x 2 + 1d12(brutal) + 3B+combat advantage + your strength + beast's strength + your wis (plus any other static bonuses you have), and, with another minor action, the beast attacks again for 1b+5+str (with combat advantage, at that).

Beastmasters aren't the DPS champions of the game, but they're pretty easy to undervalue.
