Beauty and the Geek

I just don't get reality shows. Where do they find these people? How many of you would go on tv to be ridiculed or insulted? You couldn't pay me enough to go on American Idol and get snide remarks from a surly Brit....

If you ever figure out the answer to this one, let me know...I've been wondering this for a few years myself...:)

I feel bad for Richard and Mindy (the girl that he is paired with).
Try as I might, I don't feel sorry for them, most especially toward Richard. He was sorta funny in the first two episodes, but then it got so grating. I'm thinking this is what happen when a father like Woody Allen procreate with a daughter (albeit adopted) like Soon Yi.

Oy vey. :\

Chuck's gonna get burn for saving Scarlet. :]

I gotta say that I like the show.

While there is money involved it really seems like the people involved are learning things about themselves and going through a few changes - mostly for the better. Unlike The Apprentice (which I do like, but for different reasons) there is some actual interaction that has nothing to do with the Game. Sure, Richard seems to be playing games but it isn't really working. And there were/are alliances but they really can't help either team win.

Basically, it's just different and doesn't offend my sensibilities. There's no backstabbing, stupid stunt tasks (okay, the get as many numbers as you can in X time was damn close) or useless drama. The people aren't actually all that interesting but by virtue of the show's concept all they are there to do is be themselves but just a little more daring.

I like that the people are all generally good folks. The guys aren't scummy and the women, while attractive, are well behaved. Is it real? Probably not, but it certainly seems like everyone is having a good time and are open to new things and trying activities they would never do.

Basically, it's a harmless and fun little show that I hope sticks around for a while. It's much better than most of the other reality shlock I've seen.

While the guys aren't scummy, I do find Brad to be pretentious. Then again, though he may be a mensa member, he's not the kind of guy you'd think can't get a girl (as we obvious in the past episodes before he and Krystal were eliminated). He just happen to have a high set of standards in choosing his mate.

Based on your reviews here, I went back and watched them all. Surprisingly entertaining, and better than most of the reality dreck I've watched bits of (much less manipulation of the situation, it seems, though winners and losers are still somewhat scripted).

Richard I feel bad for only in that he seems to be completely trapped in his defenses, emotionally stunted in a really horrible way. Like I'd feel bad for someone who lost their legs, for example, though there's some slight chance he can "fix" himself.

And yeah, Chuck is a prick.

And I also feel bad for Mindy. What does "sorority girl" mean, anyway? It certainly means that she went to college, and she seems quite bright. The bulk of those national merit scholarship women end up in sororities, y'know. It's like it's a dirty word. Heck, she could be a doctoral candidate and we wouldn't know from "sorority girl."

Plus I've got kind of a thing for her. She's cute, to boot.

Heh. On the other hand, you're happy to post on a surly Brit's message board! Beware the snide remarks!

...oops... too late! ;)

This weeks episode was intresting..

Mindy busted out the glasses! I'm starting to think she's a closet geek. I really really wouldnt be suprised if Mindy won the whole thing for Richard. She's carried them out of the elimination room all 3 times!

They're gonna show an extra episode "the aftermath" 2 weeks from now (next weak is the finale) which is gonna show how the whole Richard/Chuck thing comes to a climax or whatever.

After seeing the last episode, I agree. Chuck did came off as that. He should not have let Richard get to him, annoying as Richard is. Tremendously annoying.

To me, a sorority girl is college version of the popular girls in high school who seems to be in every social-based extracurricular activity group as well as the Honors Society/Club. The fact that she also look like a bettie makes you wonder if her grades are based on merit or getting them male teachers horny.

I dunno man. The fact that Mindy has carried her team to victory all 3 times shows that she's more intelligent then she appears.

My girlfriend tells me that Texas Sororities have strict requirements (3.0 GPA among them).
