Being a whimsical DM

My approach has always been that everything that happens in-game is 100% serious, straight-up, and treated as if it were real. The people in the room are more observers of this reality than participants, however, and I have abundant levity going on out-of-character and ample metagame discussion. Being at a D&D session with me is much like watching a movie with a bunch of friends, or listening to it with a lively commentary track.

I've thought about going for more in-depth roleplaying with less out-of-game chatter, but my style seems to work and it's natural to me.
