Being Human

And they are playing it RELENTLESSLY!
[sarcasm]
In case you missed it the first time, they've run it another 22, and have plans for another 1800 repeats before episode 2 airs.[/sarcasm]

I have to say that the first episode of the British Season 3 was brilliant! The show just keeps getting better and better. Just watched it and I never thought I would see one half of Robson and Jerome - I've no idea which not being a middle aged woman - in a situation like that, lol.

It was very good - vampires forcing werewolves to fight in cage matches! What's not to like?

Indeed, and I thought all the new faces were brilliantly cast, a shame that a certain comedian - Paul Kay? Is that his name - will not be featuring more he seemed to have potential until...

SyFy is small time anyways...why remake a show for a small time network when it would be easier to broadcast something that is higher quality (SyFy normally has abysmal quality control on it's stuff), better written, and original instead of trying to copy cat it into something they feel will appeal to Americans (when the British version would probably appeal to more people in the first place...IMO of course).

Kind of puzzled about that.

I believe BBC America broadcasts the original...for those looking for the REAL version.

I wasn't really interested in the show (like Dr Who and Primeval however).

As a broad generalization, higher quality is not easier.

Also, SyFy is paying for the remake, right? Why should SyFy remake a show for a small-time network? Because they are a small time network! They sure aren't going to remake it for someone else.

I watched the second episode of the SyFy version, and the first episode of the second season of the BBC version. And I think I caught the major problem.

The BBC show is serious, but there's a whole lot of comedy packed into it (largely thanks to George). This became strikingly apparent because that comedy was largely missing from the second season opener, and I was less satisfied by it as a result.

You can see a line here or there where the SyFy version is saying, "See, we've got comedy too!" But really, no, they're taking it a s a straight-on drama. Without the comedic aspects, the thing leans toward the derivative and turgid. The comedic aspects are what made the show different from the other urban fantasy out there.

An American season is much longer than a British series. They'd have enough episodes do broadcast 2/3 of a season, and then run out.

Given that they want multiple 24-episode seasons, instead of 3 6-episode seasons (or one single 18 episode season) they don't have any choice but to make their own.

While I don't care for everything they're doing in the SyFy version, some of the changes to the original plotline strike me as being quite good.

I am starting to really like the US Being Human. It's getting less angsty, pretty-boy. And MORE exploring the deep emotional experience and pain that comes with being non-human.
