Beowulf nearsighted?

Felon

First Post
I seem to recall in high school reading that Beowulf had some kind of childhood accident involving bees stinging his eyes. Supposedly, it damaged his vision, but the resultant effect was that he had to "look at men all the closer" or something like that, basically meaning he had good Sense Motive.

Anyway, I haven't found anything like that in online references to the character, so perhaps I'm channelling some other classic hero? Got any mythology experts out there that can help me out?
