BESM d20 - I think I'm in love

First Post
Just wanted to post a general exclamation of delight. I somehow had not looked at this book very closely when it was first published, and I've just recently discovered it at the book store. What a nifty mix of core d20 and customizable menu options for character development! I've never been a giant fan of the anime culture - sure, I'll skirt the edges and appreciate a small taste of it in certain computer games, cartoons and comic books - but the presentation in BESM would seem to be perfect for adapting to many pseudo-"modern" campaigns, anime-based or not.

This is one of those products that would keep me amused for weeks on end simply as reading material, regardless of whether I'm in an active gaming group.

OK. That was it. You can go back to your other message threads now. ...

I've been thinking of buying this too. It would make it easier to run a Trigun or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon type game, among others.

I was thinking Final Fantasy VII myself.

I almost bought it, but it seemed a little thin...

We could have padded it out to make it thicker, but we think gamers want material, not fluff. I think the book is packed solid full of material. I'm clearly biased, but I think you're most certainly going to get your money's worth with this book.

I just started a planescape-ish campaign using BESM d20 as the main rules. The characters are kinda wacked, which is just what I was hoping for. BESM d20 is an excellent toolkit to build pretty much anything, which is why I like it so much

I found the deconstruction of the D&D classes rather interesting as well. I was surprised that the authors calculated/concluded that the Wiz and Sorc. were slightly more powerful than the other classes (and gave those other classes a few extra points to boost the balance). It's always been my feeling that the mages may indeed be more flexible at any particular moment, but they are limited by the number of times they can use those powers - after the last fireball, for example, a wizard loses his value to the rest of the group. ... But I'll concede that observation may be based on my own playing biases; a more balanced (or *differently* balanced!) campaign and DM could find it otherwise.

Regardless, I think that playing BESM d20 D&D would be a lot of fun.

I think that the point balances for the D&D classes assume that all magic items will be paid for with character points and the Item of Power attribute; given that, then yes, the spellcasting classes are a little more powerful. But that's all IMHO.
