Best 2e Adventures?

First Post
Best adventure threads usually focus on 1e classics and popular 3e modules.

I occasionally browse 2e esds and am tempted to buy some of them (or download those free at the wizards site).

However, I was out of D&D for most of 2ed Edition (which seems to have been a blessing in disquise :D ). Which adventures (I guess they weren't called 'modules' then, as they were boxed sets usually) were good?

The one which seems to get uniform praise is Ruins of the Undermountain, which was a great product. Even as a 2e product, it provides so many resourses for today's DMs.

One thing that seems to be good about 2e downloads is you get a lot for you money (no 16 page modules in that era, and the ESDs cost $5 whatever the length).

Which others are worth looking into?

I was just going to say Undermountain.
Not available as PDFs, but Dungeon Magazine had several really good modules during the 2e days - Asflag's Unintentional Emporium, Lady of the Mists, Deadly Treasure... almost all issues had something useful and interesting.

I really liked Axe of the Dwarvish Lords. Nice little story, huge dungeoncrawl. But the NPCs were enjoyed and theirs a good crytptic message that my players were able to follow perfectly. It was a good three or four sessions worth of fun.

Dragon Mountain -- You'll never look at kobolds in the same way again.

Labyrinth of Madness: Rediculously difficult, but not Tomb of Horrors blatently-unfair type redicuouly difficult.

I thought the shattered circle was pretty cool.

I hear tales of the infinaite staircase and Dead gods are pretty cool.

Hunted Halls of Eveningstar was pretty good, pretty basic but pretty good.

Oh, the doom of Daggerdale. I thought that was a great adventure.

There are a lot of good ones and a lot of turkeys.

Aaron.

Wildspace (for Spelljammer), by Allen Varney. God, I love this module -- totally over the top, and a blast to run or play. :D

Thanks so far. Any other decent ones (2e couldn't have been that bad :D).

Anyone suggest Greyhawk Ruins?

For generic stuff I suggest

Night Below (box set)
Return to the Tomb of Horrors (box set)
The Gates of Firestorm Peak
The Apocalypse Stone
TSR Jam 1999

If you like mind flayers, try Bruce Cordell's

A Darkness Gathering
Masters of Eternal Night
Dawn of the Overmind

If you're looking for Forgotten Realms, my favorite was

Curse of the Azure Bonds (FRC2)

If you're looking to play through key events in the Forgotten Realms time line, see if you can find the Avatar Trilogy of adventures:

Shadowdale
Tantras
Waterdeep

(For supplements, Cloak & Dagger is really good.)

For Greyhawk Fans, my favorites were

Slavers
Star Cairns

Also, Fate of Istus was interesting. Don't get Doomgrinder :) That was just sad.

For Ravenloft, some of the best were

Carnival
Castles Forlorn (box set)

Children of the Night: The Created had some interesting mini adventures in it.

For Planescape, I've heard good things about

Dead Gods

For Al-Qadim, I really like

City of Delights (box set)

If you enjoy powerful lich gods, you could look for the Vecna series

Vecna Lives! (expensive)
Vecna Reborn (Ravenloft)
Die Vecna, Die!

That's all I have!

Thanks for the rec's, 7thlvlDM

What was TSR Jam? Wierd title.

I've heard a wide range of comments on Night Below, ranging from horrible to good. Did you like it?

i'm a big fan of "return of the circle of eight" [roger e. moore] and "the star cairns" [sean k. reynolds], both set in greyhawk. i've also heard nothing but good things about "dead gods" but have never actually seen the adventure.
