Best Acting in a Fantasy/Sci-fi Movie

Off the top of my head, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. The three films have the best acting ensemble.

Also, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Kudos to Ricardo Montalban to amp up Khan's vengeful wrath.

Patrick Stewart does good Shakespearian stuff, notably in ST: First Contact. So does James Earl Jones (Conan the Barbarian, voice of Darth Vader). Sigourney Weaver in Alien & Aliens.

Jeremy Irons in Dungeons and Dragons.

"Nows your time to Die!"

Oh wait, you wanted good acting...

I would like to nominate the entire cast of Aliens. Yeah they were playing a bunch of overamped grunts, but there are so many memorable characters in that flick. How many of us have quoted that flick in our lives?

As for D&D the MOvie, Irons must have been hell on the set guys, with all the scenery he chewing. ;)

A Clockwork Orange: Malcolm McDowell

Blade Runner: Rutger Hauer

Aliens: Sigourney Weaver

Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan: Ricardo Montalban

Batman: Jack Nicholson

Superman, Superman 2: Gene Hackman

Close Encounters: Richard Dreyfuss

Enemy Mine: Louis Gosset Jr. as the andogynous alien.

Aliens: Bill Paxton as the whiny marine. ("We're in some cherry **** now!"). Maybe he just had good lines, but came off as the most interesting character just the same.

Most of the Star Wars movies: Ian McDiarmid - the emperor / Chancelor Palpatine

Blade Runner: Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty. Again, maybe he just had good line, but still.

LotR trilogy: Ian McKellan as Gandalf.

X-men/X-men 2: Ian McKellan as Magneto.

Fifth Element: Chris Tucker as Ruby Rhod (comedy roles count too, right?)
